I'm wondering if this could be my problem. I have replaced all 4 coils (all were cracked) and I am still getting erratic idle when warmed up which eventually leads to stall. It's driving me crazy. The Vmax pickup is £408 over here while the XVZ1300 is £176. How different are the two pickups and...
I wonder if any of you guys can help.
It's the old problem:
It has been plaguing me for the last year or so. Erratic idle when hot leading to it just dying.
Rear coils both were cracked so I did the COP'S conversion including resistors in line on the rear, cleaned and balanced the...
Trouble is that very few posts actually say what power rating you need for the resistors. 10W are quite large, 25 - 50W are very large. I am in the process of making up my own leads and am going to try 10W 1ohm wire wound 2% and see how hot they get.
You have the identicle problem I have been having the last few months. Poor idle after 45mins of riding, Perfect start and not obvious when cold and all fine above idle when revs rise. I checked charging system and had 13.8V. Did the crimp fix and now have 14.2v which is within spec. Cleaned all...
Seems to be two types available on e-Bay. The chrome version with a V (Yamaha) or the Delvic stainless steel version with a black cap on the end. Chrome will obviously be more susceptible to corrosion if base metal is steel. I have ordered the stainless which comes with all mounting fittings.
Re: which motor oil do you use?
No doubt about it the best oil for the V-Max is semi synthetic 10-40 best balance between fast lubrication of the top end and consumption.
The engine was designed in the 1980's and is not ideally suited to fully synthetic so it is a wast of money and some have...
I believe the SASY website tells you that it will be rough at idle due to the over rich setting as per Kenny's post. In general Yamaha got it right with the original set up and most mods show reduced power at some point in the power band when V-boost comes in earlier.
