I've got to warn you..... I use that exact same tank bag and it left some very considerable scratches and marks on my gen 1. I was very careful to make sure both the bike and the bottom of the bag were clean too.

I had scratches on my tank as well from the bag! I'll be putting a clear on the tank on my new Gen 2. How much support does the factory backrest provide? I am thinking about getting the factory backrest then adding the Corbin tall backrest.

Don't know, haven't had a rider back there yet. Maybe in a few weeks after I hit the Dragon!

If you are asking how much support the factory low backrest has, it's pretty much none, just a bump stop- I put one of those extenders from Ebay on mine, now the wife can lean back and feel safe lol.
 
Just rode 1250 miles in 5 days on the new V-MAX, the bike ran flawlessly and was a pleasure to ride in the mountains! I have a video from the Dragon, bike was as nimble as my B-King, I didn't have any problems but I wasn't exactly trying to set a speed record either, but I made sure nobody passed me. LOL. As far as gas mileage goes, my first few tanks were around 75-80 but I had over 88 once and 89 another time before the fuel light came on, so that mileage isn't horrible. The stock seat is not bad, the handlebar vibrations in the right hand were a little bothersome, but not any worse than what I had on the B-King before I put the vibranators on it. I think the stock bar position is fine, ergonomically it felt good. Even with just that small mini-shield on it, it just blasts threw the wind, the motorcycle just wants to GO, does not like to be ridden slowly. I also noticed the "engine braking" issue, and it was worse coming DOWN the mountain than going up, I'm hoping to fix all that when I do the Nash flash and exhaust after I've had it a full year. This turned out to be a great week of riding in North Carolina, perfect weather, can't wait to do it again next year!

I took my wife out a few weeks ago on my 09' with the low butt stopper it made her feel safe but that's all I didn't push hard at all tho . Personally I'd rather have her tits on my back then her sitting up against a taller sissy bar :punk:
 
Hey Texas, I was there too. :punk: The Dragon is fun but I think I like the long sweeping curves of the skyway better. Lots of good riding all close together though.

There are 3 or 4 outfits that camp along side the road and take pictures, to sell to all of the people that ride the Dragon. 7 bucks for the digital download, but you can buy other things too. :punk:
 
Awesome pictures John! I should get some copies of when Tom and I were down there riding last year. Maybe I will go back this fall with the Vmax group and make a week out of it to ride a the local roads I missed or just want to do again. And again...
 
Left at 6:00 am sharp this morning, arrived at noon. Bike wasn't there yet. Hmmmm. No worries, went and got the trailer, had lunch at Hooters and by the time I got back, the bike was there, we got everything sorted out with the paperwork while they got the bike ready. I got out of there about 02:30 pm and just pulled in here in Lexington at 11:00 pm, there was a HUGE friggin' traffic jam on the north side of Nashville on I-65, literally did not clear up until the Kentucky/Tennessee border. Anyways, trip was uneventful, haven't even unloaded her out of the trailer yet, I'm tired. Fixin' to go to bed. Will get some better pics tomorrow, I rode it for about 2 miles up and down the road in front of the dealership, can't wait to take it out tomorrow and put in through it's paces! Need to get 600 miles in before May 11th, 1st oil change and break in period, I plan on taking this to the Dragon for SGT! Time to get some sleep!

Hey cool, very nice bike, I just picked one up from Georgia with only 2040 miles on it, the color also matches my 85 V Max as well I have too.

I still have mine, it's now just turning over 12K miles, rear tire at 5K, 10K and front tire at 8K. Will be doing front and rear again at 15K. No crazy issues with mine, it's never been touched mechanically, bone stock. I did the 600 mile service change of the rear diff oil, have done the regular oil/filter service probably 4 times, just did it again last week. Nothing but Castrol 20W/50 non-synthetic, only thing I've used in bikes for the past 20 years! I did have one little "breakage" on my rear brake assembly. That clevis pin that holds the rear brake pedal broke and came loose one day, noticed it because the travel to get any bite on the rear brake almost doubled, wasn't a hard fix at all, Yamaha even had the part, like 20 bucks. Other than that, smooth sailing, I haven't had to do spark plugs yet but I hear that is a bear, hoping I can get to 15K with those too, probably do a major service at that time. I'm just now getting ready for a trip to the mountains of West Virginia next week with the Honda V4 forum (SGT). They are now at 20 years running! We are at 9 years for the Vmax Ralley in the Smokies, gonna try and make that again this year too. I love my 2015 VMax and it will be the very last one that I have, I'm gonna be 60 this year and not as young and spry as I used to be. When it's time to stop ridinng, I'll know! Probably 5 years or so, then instead of getting on a boring old Goldwing, I'll get back into 1st generation Camaros again!
