My opinion on lubing an O-ring chain...
DO IT!!!
I Went and bought a top of the line 525 X-ring chain for my Shadow 750, and with care, I was able to go 12k miles before it even needed an adjustment. (helps that the chain was designed for 130+ hp levels, and I was maybe pushing 65-70hp at the wheel)
With cleaning and lubing, it WILL help your bike's chain last longer, as well as the sprockets. Just my $9.95. (yeah... inflation. THANKS OBAMA!)
As far as chain guards go, I will eventually need one, where as the chain drive conversion is a planned mod. I think I shall make my own though, where as I want it to be a chain guard/tire hugger combo.
