In Canada I keep reading about armed robberies (guns), assault with a deadly weapon (guns), gang shootings, murders, etc. Thank God Canada is "protecting" its citizens from law abiding hunters, marksmen, skeet shooters, and other honest enthisiasts with its draconian gun laws.

Now if they could only find a way to keep guns away from criminals, we'd be all set.

lol yep :D

thats kind of my opinion on it.

the people that obey the law are the ones you dont care about if they have guns or not,

well, if theyre not law abiding citizens, why would passing a law fix it? LOL

boys that hunt and trap dont rob old women

When Guns are Outlawed, Guess who will be an Outlaw.....:rofl_200:Crime has gone down in Florida because we have Concealed Carry. Damn Criminals can't just attack a FOG like me... The risk is too high that I won't fight, I'll Just Shoot.....:biglaugh:

Just like the saying goes:

'Don't pick a fight with an old man. If he's too old to fight, he'll just kill you.'

I grew up in a small East Coast community where Fall and Winter meant hunting, ice-fishing, and setting snares. Not just for recreational purposes but if you wanted fresh meat during the tough times, this was your way of getting it. I turned 16, took the gun safety course, and my Dad and Uncle showed me the skills of hunting safely. I hunted without incident for 10 years.

I moved away, got a good job and don't "need" to hunt but I really would love to take up sport shooting (skeet, traps, target practice). I have no criminal record or any record for that matter so you'd think that getting a gun would be as simple as obtaining a criminal abstract then purchasing a firearm...wrong! There's so much Govt red tape now it's more of a headache than what it's worth at this time.

However, it is still quite easy for criminals to obtain firearms as witnessed on the news. Matter of fact, it's big business smuggling handguns and semi/automatic weapons into Canada.

I have to jump thru hoops to get a legal permit to carry here , take a class , meet with the chief of police , get written statements from business people stating I'm responsible enough in their eyes...blah blah blah...yet I can go to a certain section of my city and for the right amount buy a Mac10 , mini-14 or even an Uzi...:confused2:...somthing wrong there...

A small town near me in GA. passed a law that required property owners to own a weapon . Crime went down 20 % almost overnight.

I think the criminals in Canada shop at the section of the city. The argument in Canada being that if we eliminate guns we will eliminate gun-related crime. Didn't they enforce the same can't-have legal logic with alcohol during Prohibition? Remember how well that worked?

I did the bulk of my hunting with a single shot 12-gauge, a single shot 410, and a .22 cal bolt action repeater...none of them being your typical criminal's weapon-of-choice.

Canadian gun laws:

We have a long gun registry. This includes the owner of the firearm, and the address of where the firearm is stored. The registry includes non-restricted rifles (your basic hunting rifles / shot guns), restricted firearms (this includes hand guns, and other rifles deemed too scary to be carried anywhere but a gun range), and prohibited firearms (the lucky few that still CAN legally own them - these are the rest of the scary guns :p).

We get a license so that we pay purchase firearms and ammunition.

We are required to store the firearms and ammo properly as defined by our criminal code.

We are required to renew our license every few years, and must provide detailed history on spouses / ex-spouses.

What does this legislation prevent?

Likely nothing, really.

The lions share - and I mean a horribly lob sided share of crimes committed with firearms in this Country are committed with unregistered firearms. Most of these firearms are smuggled in from the united states, or other countries. Or they are stolen from individuals who have taken the time to register their firearms with their full names and address of the firearm.

A lot of the gun crime happens in our big city centers, such as Toronto. You will have young males, belonging to one side of a gang, killing other young males, from the other side of the gang. Innocent bystanders can end up victims too.

The knee-jerk solution is often heard: Ban guns! Ban all guns!

The person who is actually using their mind will read between the lines:

These crimes aren't happening with registered firearms. They aren't being committed by the average Canadian. Banning firearms will only punish a large group of LAW abiding citizens, and further take away any rights you have to bear any sort of arms legally.

The solution? In my HUMBLE opinion:

Make criminals accountable: Life is about choices. No, we aren't all dealt the same cards - but what we do with the cards dealt make us who we are. If you choose to live by the gun, that is, in the end, your choice. Also - scrap the young offenders act. It's a loop hole that's being played again and again. The point? I don't care about the sob story that brought you to the life of crime you now live, and nor should the....

Judges: Make Judges accountable. How many times do we have to be revolted by the Judges flimsy punishment, based on some sob story (re: make criminals accountable)? Judges should have ZERO discretion on punishment. IF a Judge decides a more gentle punishment is in order, then the Judge should lose his or her job IF that criminal re-offends while on modified punishment. How many Judges will continue to let criminals walk the streets if THEIR jobs are on the line? If THEY are held accountable for their decisions? I realize that a judge must be impartial, and that is the core of our justice system - but when someone is guilty - they are guilty. A certain crime gets a minimum time. Period. You use an unregistered firearm in the commission of an offense? LIFE IN...

Prison: Build more if we need to. Build more jails if need be.

Switzerland issues a weapon to every household and requires training in the use of it. Guess what their crime statistics reflects ?

I feel for you all in Canada. Makes no sense to withhold arms from lawful citizens, unless the gov't wants puppets or to infringe a type of social or communism. They are still at it in the states. Billary and the king are attempting to get the U.N.'s help in more recent times. The Illinois AG is wanting the Highway Patrol to release names of people who have permits to have guns. She's prob from that Chicago mob. The HP is standing their ground on that, so far. Always someone, somewhere, wanting to bring us into captivity. One of these days, I'll prob become an outlaw because of this. If they come to towns and communities to confiscate weapons in the states, it'll be a bloodbath, and for nothing. Just to take away our constitutional rights. They'll dang sure need the U.N. to enforce such a law. If they show up, I'll be past pizzed off.

Gun laws make law abiding citizens criminals. MOLON LABE!

Yep, Her father (Mike Madigan) is the real power broker in Illinois politics. Amazing, another connected person lands a lifetime career and retirement benefits in Illinois.
The ISP is no friend of the second amendment, the Illinois State Rifle Association has been battling them to prevent the illegal creation of a gun owners data base for quite some time. Now magically Lisa wants to provide the names and addresses of people who MAY own a firearm to the street gangs and sociopaths so that they can target them for robbery and possibly even murder. And people vote for her?
Illinois is second only to California as a socialist utopia. Of course that why it broke......:damn angry:
