I am reinstalling the Barnette Clutch plates. I've put all the parts that I took off back on: One washer, one flat washer with tabs, one nut, one little ball bearing and the bolt looking thing that goes on last. Seems like there is room for more disks or do the clutch plates sit in the basket kinda loose? Here are a few pics.

The first pic shows the plates and there is a gap between the first plate and the cover.

The second pic I simply slid the plates over to show how much space is in there.

On the left side of the bike where the slave cylinder goes a little bit of the rod is sticking out. Should I be able to push that by hand? I can't get it to push, I can pull it out though. Any suggestions are appreciated. :confused2:

Did you align the pressure plate? It only goes on one way (you have a 1 in 6 chance in getting it right the first time).

Hmmm, that would've been a guess then. Which one is the pressure plate? I'll assume it's the first plate.

Really? I'm glad I read this forum.

I had the same problem. The clutch plates weren't clamped together.
I pulled it apart, didn't see anything wrong, and put it back together. All OK.

So, I got it right the 2nd time! :eusa_dance: he he he

Remove bolts from the purple part, take it off, rotate and put it back on. Repeat until it sits in the basket and takes up all the slack.

Aha! This is like an Indian Jones movie where one clue leads to another and in hindsight everythings pretty obvious. So the clutch mystery is solved. Woohoo!

So the pressure plate has indentations cut out that match up with the indentations that match up with the inner clutch boss. How clever! One turn either way and the "teeth" don't mesh and a gap is left.

You can see teeth and the difference between the correct way to install the pressure plate and the incorrect way. Now I feel that much better about putting the cover on.

Man I don't know how fast Yamaha turned these things out, but if I built motorcycles it'd be one or two a year!

brownrxmd how come you can come on the forum and post but you cant resend a pm back to me about you not sending check's for my exhaust thats for sale. you told me you wanted it and that you thought it was a great deal and you would send a check. I waited 10 days and no check. When i emailed you at 5 days you said you sent it. So i said i would hold it for you and if the check dont come in a few days you can send a new one. you said sounds great. So 10 days later no check you said i put another check in the mail to you. 3pm's and 3 email's and i dont know how many days later (before xmas) still no check and no word from you. Sorry to make you look like a --- on the forum but i tried to talk with you in privet 6 time's and you dident anser but you come on the forum and post. Its one thing when you say you want something and things go wrong or change and you cant do what you say you can do but to lead a person on for this long and dont come through shows your character as a man. I just told phatmax i wanted something and things changed and i pm him as quick as i could and told him i cant. Same with richrash i sent him a pm about a clutch part. I gess what im trying to say is when you make me go to the mail box everyday for this long and go to the post office to see how much shipping is on a bulky 50 pound exhaust for nothing. Well again it shows your character as a man. Good luck in life as you will need it.

Sorry about jacking the thread but i couldent help myself.
