lol, next time your gonna tickle my pickle, use your tongue.....lol :wkwk:.

i'm new to the vmax forums, i was only ever on the vmoa and outlaw sites before. i wasnt sure if gen I owners were welcome over there or not.....lol

Apsolutly are. But as you have seen this site is geared more toward Gen I and the other toward Gen II. But there are plenty of help on both sites. That is why I frequent both daily!

I can not comment on the generation 2 because here in Argentina cuaesta 38000 dollars and an employee earns about 500 a month, as you can see it is impossible to buy, one of the first costs around 10000 or 12000, is a 206 for sale in 18000, I am very happy with the generation 1, but now that will be 1300.

I can say everytime I jump on my 165 HP Gen 1 1500 Tourmaster I am thrilled. And Everytime I jump on my 180 HP Gen 2 I am thrilled. Just love the Vmax, regardless of Gen 1 or Gen 2 . I enjoy riding the Gen 1 with Gen 2 and riding the Gen 2 with Gen 1 owners. There is absolutely no reason for a division of loyalty or comaderie for either owners. Just cheer on the Vmax! LOL

I keep thinking I want a Gen II. Again, the only hold up is price. I'd really rather have new than one someone else has slept with if you know what I mean.:rofl_200:

I can get really crazy with mods on the 2, Gen 1's I have and still have money in my pocket...

Wow! Sounds like smuggling newer Maxes might be in order.:biglaugh:

The only thing I don't miss about my old '89, tank slap at 120-140. Happened to me twice past 135. It'll make ya pucker up and :eusa_pray:. You never knew when it was coming on. I tried about everything but a dampener to cure it, to no avail.

Neck adjustment, lowering the front (which adds weight to the front of the bike) and a sport windshield at the right angle seems to have tamed the 2 that I have. Haven't had an episode since. My Fingers are now Crossed.:rofl_200:

Yamaha actually asked me what things would make the Gen II a success. My number 1 answer was to keep the price realistic... My #2 answer was color choice. #3 / 4 were lightweight and exceptional handling.. So much for listening...

If they'd kept the price under $15,000, I'd be accepting delivery on one right now.

If you want lightweight and exceptional handling be prepared to give up the motor. If you can do that, I would like to introduce you to every other I4 standard and crotch rocket on the market.

I sat on a Gen 2 today at the Motorcycle show here in NY and while its heavier on the spec sheet than a gen 1, it feels lighter. The seat was a little hard but other than that, the whole bike felt A LOT nicer.

I did all that, too. The lowered front 'help' may of been offset with the rear shorty shocks. The metal washer thing was a joke. Did the head bearings twice, front rim, tire... :confused2:

You truely do not understand the Vmax both Gen I and Gen II with statements like that... And yes I have had both...

Your 10 in Red is a real beauty. I did not mean to put it down. My point was the price and performance, VS what is coming out now in Litre bikes, such as ZX10R, BMW and others.

I beleve if you buy a bike for close to $20,000 it better do what you want without dinkin with it, since you had to put more money in it means even you were not totally satisfied. I always drove Sportsters since 1969, so the 1st gen is a real treat for me, and it is still stock 05.

Now for the money would I take a VROD Muscle or a VMAX,,,not even close! VMAX for sure.:biglaugh:

If I were to get another bike it would be a Raider S for the Torque and simplicity of design and price. If I had to have the very quickest it would be a ZX10r, I could almost have both for the price of 1 New Max. Ya, price does matter, especially in MI where the driving season is rather short.

I just think Yama missed the target, and it appears the Motorcycle Mags are beginning to say so too.

Of course a Gen 2 is better than a Gen 1, sure as hell better be.:clapping:

I'd agree that the Gen 2 carries the same torch as the Gen 1...a "muscle" bike. Stoplight to stoplight king. Big torque in a big bike.

I suppose the allure of the vmax for me was it was a great value for money, a great tradeoff between cruiser and sportbike, and it's everything I wanted and more. The torque doesn't get old, still thrilling every time I roll on. It looks great, sounds great, and drives great.

However when I stopped in at the beemer dealer and got a porn mag (s1000 brochure), it puts out 10 more ft/lbs of torque than my bike, 85 more wheel hp, and weighs about 150lbs less. It's cheaper than a gen 2, faster (at least on paper), had a phenomenal warranty, and gets 42mpg. So if I had that kind of money (which I don't), I'd have the bimmer. The gen 2 just doesn't justify it's price to me. Do I have anything against people who have one? of course not, we're all here together for the same reason.

i was at a bar out of town this weekend, just me and a few buddies, well we sat down and one of the local riders was sitting behind us, well sure enough we got to talkin about bikes and he says "didnt you just get a new VMAX?? EVERYONES been talking about it"

i was like helllll yaaaaa

moral of the story, noones gonna remember your srt4 because there's 14 of them in your town, but EVERYONE will remember your 69 chevelle.

oh and, while we're on the gen 2, you really dont feel the weight until youre sitting on it and trying to walk it backwards.... phew, what a workout. the seat is so wide its hard to work your legs. the gen 1 seat looks big, but it actually curves down after a couple usable inches, so its basically a dirtbike seat. you can stand up on the gen 1 at a stoplight and your legs are almost perfectly straight

No problem, But if most any mortorcyclist buys most any bike eventually he will mod it regardless of purchase price. That is just what motorcycle people do. At least all I know. Yamaha did SEVERAL things to the motor to make it safe for the average rider. I just am in the process of uncorking it. Yama limits the throttle plates to open no more than 43% in 1st gear as well as limmits on 2nd and 3rd so the bike would no hurt anyone. I understand why because since my reflash which removes the limitation. It is a beast now....

I am sure it was a beast to begin with! Good info.

Well said Bret. Its a best and its still growing.

For me motorcycles are like women, in that that they are all beautiful; but if I'm going out and dancing the curves AND the straight aways, light to light AND the mountains or the beaches, and then just cruise for a night on the town? Well then, I'm liking the GEN II lady between my legs.....she's got it where & when it counts.
182HP 121ft-lbs and still fresh, barely mod'ed and counting on more to come...I've yet to see a dyno operator that wasn't impressed and my BUSA, R1, R6 friends tend to tone down thier song after I toss them the keys.......

As for the price? give me a break.....there are a ton of bikes with bigger price tags out there.......sheeese I hear that from guys that can't afford it that drive 1 ton dulleys with larger monthly payments six times a week (as if they're working the ranch?) Ironically, I kinda like that some struggle with the price....that means there won't be one on every corner and when you do run into a fellow GEN II rider....they are so pumped to find someone that likes to ride at the same pace - it makes for some outstanding rides.

I like the GEN 2 ! I know it wont run with some of the sport bikes but for me its a comort issue. I like to sit up & ride. My back has been broke in 3 spots & I have screwed up disc inmy neck & I find that when I am riding the sport bikes my neck kills me because I am always trying to look up. I will have a gen 2 in the future.
