Well after 16 years of being stuffed and buried in the corner of the garage, my 85 Vmax alive again. The tank was rusted so I used "poor-15" on it. That's 2 gallons of vinegar, 1 gallon of water, soak for days turning every 12 hours. Then I rinsed and repeated the process and finally I put in a gallon of water with some baking soda and 100 carefully counted sheetrock screws and gave it a good shaking. It came out clean bare metal, not even any spots. For the carbs I got my parts from GEORGEFIX, I had to replace all o-rings and diaphragms including slides, so I had to shop them hard. They may not be OEM but they look like OEM and just might be from the same manufacturer the OEMs come from. I saved a good $350 and since it needed a battery, tires, helmet and whatever else comes up, it helped. After weeks of preparations I launched an attack and got everything rebuilt and put together in a day. Time of life was 11:15pm, It was like Christmas morning taking it for a spin on rotten tires with a sticker that expired in 95. Should be legal in a couple of days so I can give it a good blowing out. About the only problem I'm having is it's sluggish at the botton and idles rough. I don't think it idles well enough to tweak the A/Fs yet. Idle also seems to change when I lean it to the kickstand, float bowl levels? They're dry set even with the circle just like they were when I took them apart. I owe many thanks to the forum and it's contributors, I forgot a lot in the 20 years since I really worked on it. Special thanks go to Sean and naughtyG. Now I just need to sell my Kosman stuff so I can pay my personal accountant back.
