It's funny because joe pa and Spanier are the only two the board fired... McQueen is still employed, Curley took a leave of absence and Schultz was allowed to resign. I'd like to quote an email I got today from the interim president of Penn State, Rodney Erickson:
"In addition to the legal process under way, Penn State's Board of Trustees has authorized a full investigation '...to determine what failures occurred, who is responsible, and what measures are necessary to insure that this never happens at our University again and that those responsible are held fully accountable.'"
The board openly admitted that they did not know all the facts, yet they fired Coach anyway. They were not looking out for the best interests of the victims or the students nor were they punishing someone for their actions. They were trying to calm the media frenzy and selfishly doing what was "best" for the university's public image instead of finding the truth and doing what's right. Breach of Integrity? Look no further than the Board.

I read the front page article on the situation this morning in USA Today, truly outrageous how people looked the other way because the perv. was such a nice guy with a golden heart, and a football celebrity, and on and on. Too many people are sheeple and buy into all that crap,,,stand around and do nothing while the young kids get sexually abused and destroyed.

You're lack of knowledge of what that man has done for humanity disturbs me. Please go do some research on his philanthropic pursuits and eat a nice big slice of humble pie. When you donate half your salary to help students, fund building one of the largest libraries by volume of works in the world, and run the special Olympics in your area, then you will still have a long way to go before you give more to society than Joe PA-terno. You obviously know nothing about what actually happened with the entire scandal... Please do some research

Dinky, I wonder if you can repeat the above same statement to the parents of one of the raped and assaulted children, word for word, while looking them in the eye. Paterno could have halted this years ago, he was not fired for no reason, he has not hired a skilled criminal attorney for no reason, and by your statements above that is proof that he was vastly over paid. My wife taught HS and Middle School for 34 years, and I will guarantee you, for sure and for certain, she did more good for the community in that time than Paterno ever has watching guys kick a football around and for far, far, less money.

When I was in college studying psych and criminal behavior this type of behaviour would be considered pretty text book. If this individual would have been doing some crap like Ted Bundy, John Gacy, or Richard Ramirez would you be defending their actions so kindheartedly? I am disappointed that his football career ends this way but that to me means nothing in light of the recent revalations. I'm sure this will be scrutinized to the enth degree by the media, with supporters and detractors both weighing in heavily. I hope that all the children involved are not further tramatized by all the pubic exposure.
Today Tom Bradley, the interim PSU coach, told the media, "I don't think any team has ever gone thru as much as we have, with all the distractions this week," after their football win.

Here's a scenario that might "hit home" a bit more closely.
You have a wife and 8 year old son in a suburban neighborhood. A few months ago a new neighbor moved in to a small house a few doors down, you briefly met him at move in and know he's single, in his 30's, a teacher, and to your eyes, kind of a weirdo, but nothing to ring any alarm bells. He gets a job teaching at the local school. Over the past few months, rumors start to surround Mr.Weird. Lots of people notice he's very friendly towards kids. He offers to babysit neighborhood kids. Some people think he's gay. Your son says that he saw Mr.Weird follow another student into the boys toilets once during class, "which seemed strange". He offers to give kids a ride home after school, or watch kids for working parents. Kids he's watched love him, saying he's got lots of great toys, the latest videogames, and he's super friendly. Some people think he's just a nice guy and loves(not literally) children. You're growing more suspicious of Mr.Weird and think he likes kids just a little too much and are concerned since next year your son will be in the grade he teaches.
