shift lights

What is the benefits of shift lights? I see that it is one of the most recommended mods, but I can't see why. By the way, I am not the most knowledgeable guy when it comes to bikes....this is my first one.

well if your bringing it up to or around red line lots your gonna go over faster then you think once it starts pulling hard thru the gears, just a safety thing as the stock motor is not going to like you going past 10G lots......... kinda hard to be staring at it(tach) while banging thru the gears thats all.
