My father-in-law is a Korean War vet collecting disability from the VA for PTSD and hearing problems....comes to 60%. A couple years ago he was diagnosed with diabetes and had to start dialysis which is done at the VA Hospital in Albany....about an hour ride from his house. While inconvenient the VA sends a van out to get him and bring him home all covered by his percentage of disability.

About a year ago he suffered a stroke and has been going downhill ever since. His doctor (or one of them) thought it would be a good idea to get a re-evaluation and maybe get his percentage of disability bumped to 70% which would open a lot of financial doors for him regarding in home health care, death benefit....etc.

He rec'd. the eval. results in the mail Saturday.....not only did they not increase his disability, they said that as a result of his stroke he has diminished mental capacity and the PTSD doesn't have the effect on him that it did before. Therefore they are dropping his disability to 10% cause his hearing still ain't so good.

Translated it means no more van, dialysis isn't covered, no in home health care, on & on!

But....thank you for your service sir!

The nine most terrifying words in the English language are, 'I'm from the government and I'm here to help.' ~Ronald Reagan~

We have 60 days to provide new medical evidence to show the VA is incorrect.....submit it to, you guessed it....the VA....for them to make a "fair & impartial" decision.

When the REAL truth may very well be that the PTSD was a major factor in causing the stroke to begin with.....but no way in hell to prove it.

What a fuckin' blow job THIS is!! :damn angry:

That is shameful for a veteran to be treated like this BD. I'll pray for a positive turnaround for your Father-in-law and for strength for Heidi and you.

That is complete bullshit. I knew benefits and disability from the military were getting worse but this is absurd. Any VA specializing attorneys nearby?

So very sorry danny,For you and your wife,Wish you all the very best. The va hospital killed my dad and my brother,Both were misdiagnosed.like dave said the va sucks!!!

I s'pose if you want to look at it in the cold harsh light of reality....they are right.....the stroke scrambled his arithmetic up bad and probly the PTSD isn't as influential as it was before it happened but fuck man....he has precious little time left, and no 'good' time at all....couldn't they cut people in his position a little slack?

I think we can delay, stall, delay until it's over but jesus, don't they owe him a better exit than this?

There are a couple things we can do....the specialist lawyer, as mentioned, is one, got some political cards to play....shit like that, but it's not going to change anything.

What kind of cold hearted motherfucker could look at this poor man's situation and come to a conclusion like that?.....it boggles my mind!

Straight up BULLSHIT. How DARE we treat our Vets like this while at the same time we hand out uncontrollably to welfare? Boggles my mind.....

Some food for thought.....the NYS Nat'l. Guard has lost more soldiers to suicide that in battle so obviously there are a large number of returning personnel who suffer, or will soon suffer from the effects of PTSD. Undoubtedly a good percentage of those poor folks will end up with a partial or complete disability as a result.

Unfortunately a certain number of them will suffer head trauma from strokes, aneurysms, car accidents, gunshots.....etc. which will destroy some or all of their reasoning & cognitive abilities

Is this the kind of treatment they can expect too?

I think the answer is yes! :blink000:

I haven't had too much or many issues with the VA, but I only retired less than 2 years ago. I would get intouch with the Disabled American Veterans .DAV. My father was a member and I plan on being, just haven't made it do to I have to get my ass up on the weekend to go...lol They will fight for him and get it fixed. I know a lot of friend that are at 90 or 100%, I got 40% not complaining due to I can still get by everyday and enjoy my family and my bike...the second is a big plus...lol

Yea but if you ask Obama about it he'll promise you that his administration is working on improvements to the VA so that more vets can be better served.

But note that in the Koran it says that it's OK to lie to people if Allah is well served by the lie.
