Hi all:

I read Gleno's great post about steering, bearings, and race removal, and am in the midst of trying to remove the bearing race from the bottom of my '89 Max.

Now, Gleno talks about using the diamond Dremel tips to cut thru that bottom race. I bought a bunch of them, and have ground the beejeepers out of a vertical line in the method he describes, but I STILL can't get the race to come out.

So, my questions are these:

1) How do I know what is TOO far to cut into the race? (I'm afraid to cut into the frame itself.)

2) What do I do AFTER a sufficient cut is made?

Thanks folks for your help and enduring my frustration!

I had the same problem when I did mine, and no access to welding equipment.

The trick is to then make 2 cuts on opposite sides if you can - VERY carefully as it's just too easy to go too far - and then it will become weak enough to be popped out with a little persuasion..

Cool...I'll try the 2 cuts first and se if that works.

Thanks.
