Flat spot at about 4500 rpm.

My '86 had that problem, lil' shims under the needles clips solved it. Easy to do too - no need to remove the carbs, just pull out the slide, unclip needles, add washer, put it all back in. From memory the shim thickness was .04" but don't quote me on it :)

    Metzler 170/80/15 question

+1 speedo's on the front wheel so will only be affected if you change the front tire size. Rear 170/80 is very close in diameter size to the 150/90, so you'll hardly notice any RPM change.

Question about Bike's Year and Fuel used

Usually the best thing for a 4-5k lag/stumble is to shim the needles, by putting a thin washer under the clip to raise the needles a wee bit.

    Stutter problem on low revs

+1 to the COPs conversion from Gannon, it's a first rate mod and does away with OEM coils / HT leads / plug caps problems. In the meantime, try pulling your HT lead from both the rear coils (front are a lot more difficult to reach) and from all four spark plug caps. Then cut off about 4-5mm...

Problem with idle after Factory Pro install

Hey John, I assume you've done your carb sync, right? To me it sounds like something's been left loose in the carbs, or maybe a spring's badly seated or missing, hence when you lay it on its side it goes off. Maybe a slide spring?

    Grips

I just run Superbike black rubber ones and love them. Never been a fan of these really thick ones, they just don't feel right to me. And I can vouch for hairspray, it's a wonderful grip glue! You just just gotta be fast to slip 'em on while it's still wet.

New Vmax price must be dropping

Still it's interesting that a new '14 is back to the price a new '09 sold for. Because of a much stronger US $ maybe?

    Guess who's coming back

Sounds good then! In Oz any bike newer than 1/89 must go through 'Australian compliance' at a cost of $2,500 + parts, that's on top of shipping and port charges, import duty and GST (!!) I did it with my 2000 vmax - never again. Sounds like it's much better in NZ, go for a cheap GenII import...

    Guess who's coming back

Welcome back indeed and condolences. I have no idea what import rules are like in NZ, but if it's anything like Oz I wouldn't bother with a GenII import! Glad to hear you'll be a Maxxer again soon though :)

    turn signal

It depends if they are 2 or 3 wire type. 2 wire type: Black wire is ground/minus; green and brown wires are for left + and right + 3 wire type: as above, and the blue wires go to the running light part of the bulbs
