My Vmax performing like a 500cc

Looks to me like the first picture is the kick stand switch wire. It would plug into the second picture wire. The green jumper is a bypass to the kick stand switch would be my guess. Test to see if kick stand switch affects it when you put it in gear with the stand down. If not bypassed it...

My Vmax performing like a 500cc

I ended up getting the SH775 from another source since Roadstercycle no longer carried it. The SH775 is a serial type like the SH847 but a little smaller in size. The SH847 is a larger capacity and larger size R/R. Look at the dimensions and start figuring where you want to mount it. That might...

My Vmax performing like a 500cc

The red and black wires that came with the kit I bought from there were 3ft. Plenty of length to mount down in the original position on the left passenger peg. Had a little length to spare, just tucked it behind the battery. otherwise could have trimmed and redid the connector end. The 3 yellow...

    time for a donation

Thought I would make another donation to the site. I have learned so much from this forum. Actually makes working on the bike very rewarding. Not as much fun as riding though. Thanks to all for helping keep my VMAX going. Now if I could keep the MOD Monkeys away. So many great ideas out...

    Bad Rectifier/Regulator?

I think I will definitely consider painting it Black. I was just ready to get it back together to see if things worked right. Thanks for the suggestion.

    Bad Rectifier/Regulator?

For the most part, cleaning things up was eliminating extra connectors, especially in the charging wiring. Not really sure what all was factory or had been modified from PO (Previous Owner). Factory wiring normally has a 3 wire connector from stator to R/R, PO had removed connector but used...

    New Paint!

Nice! I see you stuck with the RED part. I hear from the 1985 owners, that is the fast one!

    Bad Rectifier/Regulator?

Thanks Bill, When I was cleaning up all the connectors, I fixed the crimp fix from the PO had done. I eliminated several connectors. It is much cleaner now. Here is a picture of the extra parts. The new wiring harness I bought made it very easy. Soldered a few joints heat shrink and presto...

My Vmax performing like a 500cc

IMHO I would steer away from these cheaper kits. Remember you get what you pay for. There are several sites like this one that use deceptive advertising to lead you to believe you are getting a Genuine Shindengen R/R. I am no expert by no means, but the picture does not look like a true FH020AA...

    Bad Rectifier/Regulator?

Update on repairs. VMAX is back in ACTION! Replaced factory R/R with Shindengen SH775. Now produces right at 13 at idle, more than 14 at 1500 rpm. Very pleased! Got a chance to clean up the electric under the seat a bit. I eliminated several connector issues. Now the cables go directly to the...

+1 on the YES vote for me. Way to go Bill.

    Seat Swap

I would consider a trade for my corbin. I have a maxGasser on now, but loved the Corbin it just didn't work with my after market sissy bar. I have been thinking about posting my corbin for sale, it has been sitting on my kitchen table since I removed it about 3 month ago. Here are some pictures...

My Vmax performing like a 500cc

Yes I am definitely upgrading the R/R. Still trying to work out all the details. I ordered the Super MOSFET Kit from RoadsterCycle.com. It is a wiring kit partially pre-assembled with a NEW Genuine Shindengen (MOSFET) FH020AA R/R. It measures 3.5 x 4.125 x 1.25 BEST I UNDERSTAND, this R/R is a...

My Vmax performing like a 500cc

No problem on the HiJack. Mine actually has the large ground wire running from the R/R to the Neg battery terminal, not shown in the picture. I will clean the corrosion anyways to help in grounding. Thanks for the hint.

My Vmax performing like a 500cc

I feel your PAIN! Been doing some charging issue lesson cramming for the past few days. Mine went down Friday night. Glad to have all the help from the forum here. Bill has been exceptional! I am struggling about location issues also. I have the parts on order, maybe they will be here today. I...

RM Stator Discount Code... It works!

Still waiting on the R/R parts for mine, but saw your discount code and said what the hell, what is another 79.20 for a stator. Pretty cheap insurance as a back part I will have for a 27 year old stator. I guess it is 27 years old, not the original owner but pretty sure it was the stock R/R I am...

    Bad Rectifier/Regulator?

Thanks for all the help Bill, I have ordered the new R/R, (MOSFET). Definitely sounds like the way to go. I did check the Stator as you described. The AC voltage looked good and the test for short to ground was all open. I will be eliminating the extra connectors on the circuit. The kit I...

    Bad Rectifier/Regulator?

First of ALL, thanks to Buster for posting the sticky about charging sytem troubleshooting, I think I am heading in the right direction. Also, apologize up front for long post, thought I would try to include what I know. Came home the other night after riding several hours. Bike would not crank...

    Thinking about adding another bike...

I owned a 1987 Concours for years. Bought it new and sold it about 2 years ago. Always enjoyed riding it. I have the MAX now, but like you said, would like to have a little variety. I miss my Concours!

    Exhaust without re-tuning?

I agree with Fire-Medic, probably a Vboost switch. You might pull the left scoop and see where the wires from the switch go. Mine has the VBoost module mounted under the L.scoop and plugs in between the factory plugs. Easy to see. On mine it was installed on it when I bought it, hardest part was...
