Tools needed / tips to replace fork seals on 2010 Vmax.

I didn't think it was possible to drive the seal in too far. The seal in the other fork might not be seated against the "step". At any rate, I would think they should be OK if they are not crooked in the tube.

Tools needed / tips to replace fork seals on 2010 Vmax.

I've done 8 sets of forks using an air impact wrench to remove the bottom bolt with complete success. It was easy. As said by gentsvmax, clean out the socket for the allen driver .

    1989 Vmax Resurrection Thread

I don't like the 1/4" fuel line form the auto parts store. It is stiff and hard to get over the barbs/nipples. It makes rubber crumbs inside when the barbs bite into it, and the crumbs get into the carbs. It needs big clamps because the OD is big. I like the stuff like OEM. I imagine it's...

Requesting a few pictures of the speedometer with rear cover removed

I had an XS1100 speedometer rebuilt "professionally" once, because I wanted to preserve the odometer reading. It cost about $350, but it came out perfect. I just searched online for an expert.

    Cracked coils

IGN Coils are typically filled with epoxy. I worked at an automotive supplier that made coils and represented another one that made coils. I'm so old I was still selling oil-filled coils to Chrysler in the 1980's!

    backfiring

Missing spark or plugged carb on #2? You can make a diagnostic plan. For example, perhaps remove the spark from #2 and lay it against the engine. Turn the engine and check for spark. If spark is OK, drain the fuel bowls and look for crud......etc

    1988 vmax

Yeah, Yamaha clear coated the aluminum parts because they oxidize so quickly when they stay wet. My bikes don't get wet too often, maybe only a few time a year. I don't use clear coat. I just polish them by hand with Mother's every couple of years, and they are always looking decent: On the...

    no power on take off

Behavior was like my bike when I bought it. Had a plugged pilot jet. Since you just rebuilt the carbs, is the tank clean? Confirm the size of the new pilot jets?

Based on my experiences, I also find it better to leave the carb bowls full over winter.

Motorycle For Sale Front tire change fell off center stand

I don't think I would focus on getting it on the centerstand as the first step. I would look for place(s) to apply scissor jacks(s), and have a friend stabilize the bike while you jack it up enough to get the front tire back on.

Cannot rev past 6500 RPM under load

I into tried to think how it could happen re-building carbs, and I wondered if the mechanic accidentally dropped a small screw or bolt into the intake.
