    Illinois VMOA Ride-Out

Hey sign me up for this one! I'm planning to get there late on Friday (I'll miss the dinner run), and be ready to go Saturday morning. Anyone else plan to be there?

Looking to buy my first VMax

Hey Mike - welcome to the site. There is a list of changes over the years HERE (it's under the "Tech and Info" link) In 93 they upgraded the front end so you might want to look for one later than that. Or, you could find an original year 1985 and just plan to dump a bunch of money into it as...

    fork springs

Slight threadjack, but its related. I installed progressives over the winter and I now have an oil leak out of the air hole on one fork. There is no longer any air pressure in there, so I gather that I can just seal those holes. How to do it? Will JB Weld hold up?

    Decel popping

Backed all 4 out a quarter turn and it made it considerably worse. What does that mean? Should I try backing out further, or turn em in further than before? What happens when the mixture is too rich?

I'm sick to death of my mirrors

Anyone know if you can get bar end mirrors to fit over Kuryakyn grips?

    Decel popping

Bike is running strong and sounds great with the HMF full exhaust. When it gets hot I get significant popping from both pipes when decelerating. A quick poke around suggests that this is not uncommon when you change exhausts, and that it results from too lean a mixture. Does that sound right...

HOW TO: rebuild your starter motor (and eliminate Hot Starting problems)

Thanks, Naughty - I'd really like to see the valve write up, BTW FYI the starter wire comes out very easily and if you bring it in to NAPA they can set you up with a heavy gauge replacement for 10-15 bucks. I went with a 4 ga. and it fit in just right. My original o was actually quite...

HOW TO: rebuild your starter motor (and eliminate Hot Starting problems)

If you've never had an issue starting your 'Max, count yourself lucky, cause it SUCKS. I gather that there are numerous possible causes (weak charging system, the notorious crimp, cracked coils, poor grounds all around, weak battery), but it seems that sooner or later the starter itself is...

    Starter's removed... what now?

Did you ever get this done, Nick? I'm just finishing a total starter motor rebuild and I will post lots of pics and instructions soon.

    R1 r/r

    Haha sorry. Regulator/Rectifier from a Yamaha R1 - its a common upgrade.

    R1 r/r

I bought one from Fleabay in early February, and just now got around to testing the damn thing. Of course, it is no good, so I am in need of a replacement. Rather than roll the dice with Ebay again, I'm wondering if anyone around here has one that is confirmed functional. Alternately, are...

What to do when your fuel pump clicks like a SOB

Diaphragms were missing entirely? Is there any chance that they fell out when you disassembled the pump (that's what happened to mine)?

    Starter's removed... what now?

The wire is attached to a thin metal plate, and that plate is also attached to the interior of the main body of the starter. Nothing is actually attached to the end cap, so you should be able to pull it off. It may be that the thin plate is stuck inside the cap one way or another - try prying...

Seat is indeed from Sean - I have to admit that I was a little skeptical about the difference he could make, but BOY does it feel nicer. I haven't had a chance for a decent ride in yet, but it is a whole different feel. Grips are Kuryakyn ISO. I managed to find some used ones on fleabay...

She's a real cock-tease! Sometimes she gets in the mood and lets me fire her up, and those HMF's sure sound sweet when she does. Crappy microphone on my camera, but you kinda get the idea: http://s931.photobucket.com/albums/ad160/yukonerdave/?action=view&current=MVI_0191.flv
