There has been a lot of discussion that the 85 ft pounds is too high. Many recommend about 35 to 50. I use about 50 with no apparent problems. Do a search on axle torque.

Actually 03 is a great year as all mods/improvements/fixes had been done by Yamaha by that model year. If I were to buy another Max, it would be 03 or later.

Seafoam is more of a cleaner and Startron is an additive that is great for ethanol. For various reasons I have been unable to ride for over a year but keep both in the tank at slightly higher than recommended amounts. I have gone as long as 4 months without starting and it starts, idles and revs...

I have done this many times and have never used brute force or prying. Just everything loose and angled correctly and push down on each corner a little at a time till you feel it pop in. BTW, I am not a heavyweight either. Only about 160 pounds... :biglaugh:

Talk about a recipe for disaster!! One mistake could easily take out a dozen spectators. The camera operator seemed the class of the race. Wonder why recording was stopped before the checkered flag? Accident maybe?

7mm is stock size. Larger won't fit into the caps without trimming.

I highly recommend OEM fork seals.

When races are not being held, the track is often open to anyone for a fee. It winds thru forests and is a long track. (From 12.9 to 15.2 mile depending).

The oil light is not an oil pressure light. It is an oil level light only. The pickup is at the front so under hard acceleration the oil moves to the back and sometimes the light comes on. Usually only happens in 1st gear though. Checking the oil level as mentioned above is your first check...

This bike was designed around 1983-1984. Don't think there was too much consideration given on emissions, etc. They wanted the baddest bike on the block. Just look at the way it was advertised/promoted.

Startron is a great additive when any gas sits for a long time. I prefer it to Stabil. Used in marinas for years as boats sit for long periods without starting. Used even before ethanol was added to gas. Only available at marinas and boating stores till word got out how well it works and now is...

I think that is a better solution than an airbag on the bike like the Goldwing.

Part of the reason is the crown in the road for drainage. Always get more wear on the left side of the tire.
