    Motorycle For Sale 2005 V MAX 20th Anniversary Edition -- $4500

All I would add is a test ride if possible up to where you go to jail instead of getting a ticket to be sure there are none of the dreaded wobbles/weaves that seem to bedevil some forum members. My bike had some pretty weird behavior until I replaced the steering head bearings and torqued them...

    Aftermarket rear shocks

I have to agree with MaxMidnight, even though I got seduced by bling and forked over a mountain of cash for Olins. They felt great, but main thing was binning a pair of no-name 11" center to center shocks and going back to stock 13" eye to eye. Improved handling from slow as molasses in...

V-Max Speed Wobble (ran it up to 115mph and...)

Seems like he is going through the perils of the damned. I had no idea how fortunate I was. 44k miles on the 2005 Vmax, major low and high speed wobbles. Tore down the front end, replaced the steering head bearings (outer races resembled railroad tracks -- grossly over tightened somewhere in...

    Powder coating scoops

What are yours made of? Mine were aluminum, so no problem. Powder coating seems pretty rugged. A fanatical prior owner of one of my bikes even had the sidestand powder coated and it seems to be holding up fine.

V-Max Speed Wobble (ran it up to 115mph and...)

If I recall correctly, the proper torque for the lower steering head nut is only a couple of foot pounds. That is essentially finger tight. The top ring and retainer are just there to make sure the lower nut doesn't rotate due to steering head movement back and forth. Torquing up the lower nut...

    After market brake rotors

Had ones like that on my Vmax for a while with no problems. (I use EBC sintered pads with them.)

    Steering head spanner wrench?

Yes. According to the Clymer manual you seat the bearings by first torquing to 38 ft.-lb. Then loosen completely and re-tighten only to 26.5IN.-LB. I suspect a lot of the ham-fisted, overtorqued steering head bearings pics I see are attempts to cure some sort of wobble, etc. All that really...

    Steering head spanner wrench?

I use this on various bikes. Cost me around $30, if I recall correctly.

V-Max Speed Wobble (ran it up to 115mph and...)

Shuriken's pics of bearing races show they, particularly the lower outer race, are totally shot. Maybe due to someone in the past trying to cure a wobble by over torquing? Anyway, wobble issues aren't going away until bearings are replaced.

    Motorycle For Sale 2005 V MAX 20th Anniversary Edition -- $4500

I really do like the Ohlins. Had them sprung for my 180 pounds with full gear and they handle really well. Prior shocks were 11 inch Chinese no name chrome shocks and they pretty well ruined whatever handling is available on a Vmax to begin with.
