    Oil pan

For oil switch, I used a soft jaws pliers to slightly twist back-forth while pulling down. For pan, maybe light hits with a dead blow or rubber mallet along gasket surface. I wouldn't use a pry. Mark

    Bad pickup coil?

To test ignitor, check input voltage on red/white wire. Otherwise, need oscilloscope or Ignitech to check p/u coil input signals. Mark

I wanna ride this darn bike PLS HELP

This happened to my "new" Vmax. You can put bike in 2nd gear and then rock it back 'n forth until the steels/discs break loose. I learned that trick from Morley. Mark

    Starter cable terminal boots

I did see one option on Easternbeaver but it looked small. Stock starter cable is 7.25 mm which is around 1-2 AWG. Thanks for the links! Mark

Hey, does anyone have a source for replacement wire boots? None of the auto stores had anything that small. Mark

Chinese carb rebuild kits: run, don't walk!

I do it differently during winters. I treat the gas and leave the bowls full. O-rings won't have a chance to dry out. I turn the key once a week to keep the bowls full. Mark

Oil leak from middle drive shaft

Not bad at all, IMO. Remove rear wheel, final drive, swingarm and driveshaft. Then loosen two crankcase bolts on either side of middle output gear. Finally, remove 3 bolts holding in the gear and pull out. Watch for the shims. They need to go back. Also, one of the 3 bolts has a washer. It has...

    Bad pickup coil?

It might be part of the problem since the signal relay/signals are all connected and could be shorting somehow. I'd do a jumper test to the coil side of the SCCR and also a continuity test of the sidestand switch. Next would be sidestand relay. which is underneath ignition tray. It's held in...

    Bad pickup coil?

Correct. The black/yellow and red/black wires are the coil side (low voltage) of the SCCR. High voltage wires are blue/white. The other wires are for the turn signal relay and signal cancelling unit. Mark

    Bad pickup coil?

Ok, 85-92 has the sidestand relay which is on left side and attaches to front of electrical tray holding the ignition unit. Under the scoop is a relay unit which is the starting circuit cutoff relay and turn signal relay all in one. Yamaha separated that in '93. Mark

coolant leak -- Replace thermostat and hoses?

There are 3 spots that it could be coming from. Drain pipe (bottom), the hose, or the coolant elboy. I'd replace all the rubbers in the area. The elbow has 2 o-rings, and one o-ring on the drain output pipe. There's also an o-ring on the drain cock assembly. Mark
