In the next month I want to do the following three tings to my 85vmax
1; Replace all the water hoses with silicone hoses. I see some cheap Chinese ones and was wondering if they were any good or if someone has used them and they are ok or rubbish?
2;my bike has a little tappet noise on the...
For you motor gurus -
Damon just posted something interesting in another thread - "Erratic idle when hot"
Quote - "When was the last time your valve clearance checked and/or adjusted? I have seen when a valve adjustment was needed the idle rpm & vacuum readings would be bouncing all over...
Anyone else do this? I pulled the diaphrams (sp?) and removed the needles.. Then went and got plastic washers to place under the needles, to move them up and create a richer mixture an mid/high throttle openings. I have been tuning my carbs for the Vmax's new home, at our lake house (elevation...
Ok, I know how the preload is adjusted on the front, (hate air preload adjustment, but at least it IS adjustable lol) but which nob on the shock is it for the preload on the back? The top or bottom? Also, should I adjust the rebound dampening when I have a passenger?
I've read somewhere that the valves tend to tighten up when they go out of adjustment on these motors. Is that right? It would seem that if that's the case, the engine would pull more vacuum? If that happened, wouldn't it then pull the slides and needles out earlier? It seems my bike is doing...
So on the '86 my clutch is slipping, quite a lot whenever I open it up.
I know about the friction modifiers in the oil being no good, and I have no idea what oil this bike has in so an oil change is first on my to do list.
But, the clutch lever bite seems to be quite far from the handlebars...
Ok so i decided to clean my carbs then figured well ...since the carbs are off maybe i should change the front valvle cover gasket i ve been putting off, had to take vboost motor off, radiator .... to have enough clearance in order to remove that damn cover after all that i figured .... maybe i...
So this may be a newbie question, but thought I would throw it out here before I dub too deep. I cannot seem to determine how to adjust these shocks. Some of the 412 it seems dont have the chrome covers that come all the way to the bottom of the shock and it would be pretty straight forward to...
Is there any way to adjust the clutch lever? Mine seems to engage immediately as i pull it in. Maybe a 1/4" and it seems to engage. It almost has me wondering if it is totally releasing since there is really no play at all letting it out. I wish the was an inch or so before it would engage so I...
I am just checking adjustments on carb, and checking float levels. I have searched the carb threads for a while and could not find the answer. I want to check float levels without removing them. Is the line on the diaphragm side the same as on the float side height for float level? I...
Hey guys I got my Max serviced today at a local shop,The guy did an amazing job and the bike has never ran better, but now my bike when it's warm idles at 1300 I was wondering if I adjust the idle do I have to re-sync carbs....Any info would be appreciated
Looked but could not find a How To Adjust A/F pilot screw. Does anyone know where in the tech area or how to area I could find a pictorial and verbage on how to adjust it. Got a new one installed in carb 3 and would like to adjust it properly for idle mixture. Thanks.
Hey all, I am trying to get the bike dialed in as good as possible. When setting the a/f screws does anyone ever hook up the carb sync to watch each cylinder? Reason I ask is that I don't notice a whole lot of difference once I start untightening the set screw on the a/f. I can tell when it's...
I thought I read once a post or a thread, but I can't, for the life of me, find it. I know if you tighten the mixture screws down until lightly sitted, the bike should start stumbling.
What would it mean if none of my mixture screws have this effect and how do you fix it?
need a few opinions here.....how far is your idle screw, screwed up to hit the linkage....1/8 inch, 6 threads..??...does it screw in a lot, etc....need some ideas...still having trouble getting the idle right on this bike....friend did the shotgun procedure, peashooter and you name it.....runs...
Just tore the MITYMAX down for it's 3rd Valve adjustment.Didn't need shims this time.Valve lash for intake & exhaust were to factory specs.Only took us 3 hours. If u haven't had this done yet, these pic's will show what to expect. Have fun.:biglaugh:
After re-rebuilding my carbs that have been sitting over 16 years, I got the bike running well. The only issue is some popping during slightly choked warm up. The A/Fs are 3 turns out now, can getting them dialed in correct the backfiring? Is the proceedure to screw each in till idle suffers and...
Is it possible to lengthen just the sides of the seat pan or extend them in some way...for some reason I'm now seeing a noticeable gap between the side of the seat and the side panel top. Did'nt notice before..don't know why it's more obvious right now.:ummm:
I spent a bit of time poking around trying to find an answer to what I feel must be a common question and came up empty. So here goes . . .
Went for a 120 mile ride today. No problems. Later on was going to make a quick run to the store and my clutch play is messed up. It's like the cable...
Has anyone ever had a high idle and checked everything but could not figure it out ,,,well if I roll forward on the throttle it will idle at 1000 rpms but if I let go it goes back up to 3000 rpms ,,,that could be adjusted out right ??????:ummm:
