With the side case off and looking at the flywheel, which way will the starter turn the motor, clockwise or counter clockwise?

How critical are some of the dimensions on these solid motor mounts? I know a few of them are not, but I'm thinking mainly of the 1.100" diameter that fits in the bore in the engine. Does this need to be a friction fit or can it be a few thousandths loose? I'm not a real expert on a machinist...
