Thanx PATMAX for finding this....
This link may help anyone troubleshooting Reserve / Fuel light problems: http://www.vmaxforum.net/showthread.php?t=4217
I bought a 97 V-Max a few weeks ago and have put three tanks of gas through it. The low fuel light and reserve are not working. I've added 3.9 gallons with no light coming on beforehand. I checked fuses. Is this a familiar issue to anyone? The fuel light comes on during the "test" when turning...
Hey there,
so i bought an 89 vmax that has been standing for some time, long story short took the bike to yamaha for a full servic carb clean and so on...
after paying them a lot of money got the bike back. it backfires the "on" switch for fuel doesnt work at all, i have to ride the bike...
so my bike usually goes about 80 miles before the fuel light comes on. today at 85 i saw the light begin to shine so i flip the switch to on. i feel the bike being hesitant and said perhaps i hit the switch too soon so i flipped it back to reserve then back to on. the throttle comes back to...
So the inspiration behind this write-up comes from an incident in which I found myself pushing my bike a half-mile to the gas station because my Reserve Switch could not make the necessary connection that re-energizes the fuel pump relay, essentially disconnecting the fuel pump from the battery...
Im new to this, so might sound quite dim. the fuel light came on so i moved the fuel reserve switch to on but 2 hundred yards later the bike ran out of petrol, could it be a relay or something else. The switch on the handlebars is nice and clean with no corrosion & the fuel light did come on?
This is what's happening with my 89. I've been fighting this for a week now. The fuel pump relay basically controls and directs when the fuel pump operates. There are only 5 inputs / 1 output.
1. A hard ground. (input)
2. Power to the relay when switched to reserve. (input)
3. A ground...
This is probably the ultimate newbie question. I just bought an 85 Max and the reserve tank and regular tank are not marked which side is which. I know dumb question and i searched on here but couldn't find anything. Thanks
Hey guys was hoping you could help me make sense of this. I've researched this thing and really havent found something that is similar to what I'm experiencing.
So for starters dumb ass me , disconnected the harness that went to the sending unit when I was messing around with stuff last winter...
When turned on the engine will quit. I can't find anything in the shop manual that gives me a breakdown on this switch and curcuit. The engine runs fine as long as the reserve fuel switch is not turned on. Now this has done this as long as I have had the bike so the switch may be on and when...
All right for all you guys out there who's bike will only run when the fuel switch is in the reserve position.....
Check Your Light Bulb!!!! :bang head::bang head:
When you first start the bike the light should come on.
Mine didnt. :bang head::bang head:
I never really paid attention to it...
If there is one thing motorcyclists have in common it's a passionate appreciation of freedom and independence.
That is THE essential part of you that is expressed through riding. It's why you would rather get wet, cold, hot, sore and gravel rash before you would ride in a cage.

What should I look for for problems. It seems to not get enough gas when its not on reserve. I always thought I had a lean condition due to a off throttle pop. How I found what the problem was I was riding it around and thought that I was running out of gas hit reserve and right away the bike...
Measured sensor resistance and got 1400 Ohms at 50F.
Question
Are you supposed to measure with tank full or empty? Or either way it should be between 700-1100?
well gang I ran outta gas yesterday...my light came on and I got nearly 40 miles on it before she ran out. I switched over to reserve with not results. How does the switch work and what is the point of it?
I got an 07 VMAX last week and Im wodering how far I can go on reserve? I:ummm: got 100 miles on my first tank before the fuel light came on. Is this about normal???

Many V-max riders are puzzled by the workings of the V-max fuel warning light.

OK,Here's the dumb question of a lifetime. Is reserve to the left or right.I replaced my throttle housing and the new one is not marked. It is from an FJ.
New bikes don't deal with reserve switchs and at least the vmax has a light. Can I just leave the switch set to Reserve and the bike will run on both the regular tank and the reserve portion? Because it has been a really long time since I've ridden a vmax I forgot all about the Reserve switch...
