Had a quick search on the forum couldnt quite get the answer i was looking for.
2007 vmax. NEVER had starter issues. been cool this spring, original battery.
today at lunch i wanted to take the bike to work. it cranked slowly kicked back once or twice, then the starter spun freely...
Hi all:
A coupla weeks back, someone had posted something regarding a starter fluid that assisted starting up a stubborn bike...I think it was sprayed into the combustion chambers before spark plugs were re-installed?
If any of you recall that, could you please reference the post for me...
The starter gear hangs up on my 2001 V-Max (38,000 miles). It's never been replaced. A reputable Yamaha mechanic told me that since I use Mobile 1 motorcycle oil, it's the leading cause to the problem. He went on to say that synthetic oil is so good that it makes it harder for the starter and...
Ok, got the flywheel off, I replaced the 3 bolts, now when I reinstall it all I'm noticing some play in the large gear behind the starter clutch. Almost seems to need a washer or something to take up the room so it can't move because now after its all back together it's STILL making a horrendous...
Ok so I'm at a loss for ideas. I bought this bike a few weeks ago, it ran like crap so here is what I've done in a matter of two weeks. New wiring harness. Removed carbs, removed vboost, removed the thing in the valley of the engine and replaced rubber gaskets in both. When I removed the thing...
I will start this post by saying, 'No Venture parts were harmed in the making of this post, however there was an unfortunate VMax casualty'
Pictures attached are of a group of solenoids from a MKI, MKII Venture and VMax.
1st picture is of on left an MKII Venture, middle is I believe an 83...

I had the rear coils off for a while, now I can't remember which wire goes where.

Hi everyone,
I haven't been on this forum for a long time. I live in Hungary, but will be returning soon to the U.S. and reunited with my beloved '85 V-Max. a friend has been taking care of it for me. The starter clutch was grinding and missing pretty bad when I left, and my friend says it has...
My choke has no stop points for Full and Half choke. Spring loaded so I have to manually hold on the choke during cold start. Works well but have to stay with the Bike untill warms up enough to kill choke. Any Ideas. I do not have the correct manual that matches my carb setup.
Tried to wake my max from its winter nap today after recharging the battery :eusa_dance:(tried yesterday but completely dead). Nothing but a clicking from the solonoid, so i pealed the rupper cover back and discovered alot of rust and broke the starter wire off (IT may have been broken...
I know there is a newer starter design that uses 4 brushes instead of 2. I see a ton of new starter motors of the Bay of E for less than $100.00... My question is how do I know if they're 2 or 4 brush starters. I assume there is a different part # for the 4 brush motors.
Anyone got some...
I have a new problem with my max. When I hit the starter switch the starter doesn't engage right away. Someone told me it could be the battery though when I connect a small charger it doesn't help.
Is the starter a common problem? My bike is an 04 with 18k miles on it.
A common starting problem with the Vmax is a loose or cracked starter clutch. You know this is the problem when you hear a God-awful noise like a bag of gravel spinning around when trying to start (particularly when it is cold). This guide will show you how to remove and inspect the starter...
As some of you know I am a closet Vmax kinda guy. I have an 83 1st gen Venture, which is the bike the VMax was developed from, with some of the fast Vmax parts on it.
One of the issues the Vmax's seem to share with the 1st gen Ventures is the failure rate of the starter clutch. One of our long...
Looks like we are now offering crankshaft repair, stroking, and balancing. Also can lighten and balance flywheels.
The crank repair isn't something I would normally do but if you have a spun bearing crank (and the block is good) we could stroke the crank 2mm and balance it at the same time...
I understand I will need two gaskets to do the Loose starter bolt fix.....
Can someone tell me exactley which ones and if there is a online seller to get what I need delivered to my door..
Thanks

Anyone tried the kit mentioned in the title? The guy from England is selling a kit on eBay that includes heavy duty cables for the ground and starter. It is about $70 shipped so wanted some feedback before buying. Couldn't find anything using the search function.
Ok, got the new starter from Sean, put it in and Vroom started right up!!! Yeah!!! Then shut it off and it started a few more times and I mean milliseconds after hitting the start button. Then WTF!!!!!!! it cranks and cranks but wont fire!! What would cause this ******* thing to only start if it...
