1985 vmax barn find...new to the site!

hey all!

just thought i'd put up a few pics of my recent barn find vmax. 1985 max with 25k on the clock. It's all there and nothing is seized. Don't have a key yet for it though so haven't been able to do much other than give it a real good bath! lol

will post pictures as i pull it all apart over the winter and restore it!!

pretty nasty stuff.......lol

Nice. I can just imagine how you felt when you first saw it. Check the vin no. There's a thread on the earilest Vmax. Congrats:eusa_dance: I hope the displaced mice are OK

Nice find. And one of the rarer Amethyst blue/purple(?) ones too. Note the paint in the side covers was not there from the factory. They only came all-aluminum. One of the first things (and about the only thing I did) to mod my red 85 was to find a can of paint as close to the color of the bike as I could, and painstakingly hand paint down into the pressed lettering so that people would stop asking me all the time "Hey, what is that thing?". After I painted them, I could simply move my leg aside, and point down at the side cover and let them read for themselves. (usually right before I went WOT to leave them behind)

Super cool! Now the big question... Are you going to restore back to stock or just build a cool ride? By now you no doubt know the scores you made in OEM add ons. Personally, I'd love to see it with the original mufflers again.

Of course I would also be real cool (if it needs engine work) to build it into a Qship. Take the outside back to original 1985 with like a 1500 max torque build on the engine (you know, keep Sean busy over the winter too)

Nice find, same color as mine when I bought it. I have kicked myself in the ass so many times for painting over the original color........

Thanks for the comments! As for right now I'm planning on keeping it pretty much all original. Will know better as I dig into it though!!! Last 4 digits on VIN are 0157 so I think it's pretty early

My '86 has the same color. Built in '85, titled as an '86.

Canadian production model?
That's two really early Canuck bikes if it in fact a Canadian model. Did they get full power bikes same as US models?

True story::biglaugh:The Canadian Yamaha importer took a ride on one, from the first-shipment, and was eaten-alive by a brown bear when he stopped to see why the bike wasn't moving, because the rear tire was just-spinning when he grabbed a big handful of throttle and dropped the clutch. :biglaugh: Apparently the bear was attracted to the maple candy the importer had in his pocket, and tore him to-shreds to try and get to-it.
