the only other thing i can think of would be carb sync,,,

sometimes when the carbs are outta sync it can cause the clutch plates to rattle. just a thought:confused2:

FOUND IT ..... kind of.

While warming up and before it gets hot, I used my ear directly on the engine, as well as using the sthetoscope, also using it without the probe so only the rubber hose inserted in the carburetor bellmouth, I could hear it loud and clear from the left side engine case and even feel it in my hand if I lay it on the cover; it is in the starter clutch area.....

What are my chances? :hmmm:

If it's definitely coming from there, then I'm willing to bet my left nut that the 3 bolts from the starter clutch to fly wheel are loose thanks to Mr Yamaha.
The starter clutch could be flogged out also.

:bang head: dammit, I hate dismantling engines or engine parts at such a low mileage, and it wont be before two weeks when I could definitely know for sure..
Thank you for the input and I shall keep you posted...

Jedi, your bet was good, you're saved.

I had the rattling marbles while cranking a couple of times, but never again.
The noise I had was shortly after startup, used to come and go but recently started to gradually increase and started to sound like connecting rod bearings but was not changing with load.

Came back home yesterday, so today I called a friend to give me a hand and we removed the starter clutch ( the SOB came off with lots of efforts while using a good quality puller ), and there we discover the three bolts were loose.

Took things apart, cleaned and degreased, applied the available blue loctite , tightened the bolts and staked them in place too. Inspected the starter gear, was not in as new condition but was okay for the time being and some time to come too, but I know that surely I shall need a new one down the road.

Seems like a very frequent problem and I see it unacceptable but anyway it is fixed and now my Vmax sounds like a Vmax...:eusa_dance:

Thank you all for the help and assistance...

Thank God I still have my left testicle. You're right about it being frequent and unacceptable, as much of a fan of Yamaha, they have an appalling record when it comes to starting mechanisms. They have a bunch of models eg. the entire Virago range and the XV1100 Vstars with an abortion of starting problems.
They have been around long enough to make sure shit like this should have ever happen in the first place.
