Local they want $12,800 for it, with 43k miles.

I ve been really leaning towards a Goldwing since we've been doing more and more long rides.

I never in my life thought I would want a Goldwing. But just looking at these things, it looks like a lazy boy on two wheels. I can only imagine how much fun one of these is out on the open road.

I think we may finish this year on my 14 and then look at a Goldwing for next year. Unless I find something for a really good deal at the end of the year.
 
I can relate that's why i have my Venture, it's old and not as nice at that Goldwing, but it's nice for commuting to work like a big comfy couch, does separate you from the raw biker feeling though, almost like a car in alot of ways, i.e. cruise, radio, lot's of trunk space, even has vents to let the engine heat warm your legs when it get's chilly at night and later in the year riding, won't go 145 in the corner's at MIS LOL but's it's nice to have options.
 
Mate of mine has a Gold Wing with 147k on the clock. Nothing major has ever gone wrong with it, just minor issues with corroded connections etc. He says he will never sell it, it's become a big part of his biking life and he goes all over the country on it at the drop of a hat.

Thats what I want to start doing soon. More traveling and adventuring. Riding around Michigan is ok, but I want to visit more states.

I am hopefully moving out of Michigan in the next couple years. So hopefully we'll see what happens, looking at Texas and Arizona, maybe Ashville North Carolina.
 
Ashville is nice have friends down that way beautiful country lot's of great roads to ride.
 
Dunno if you want to get that high tech, i prefer the slighter older Gl1500 Goldwings, here is my 95 and 93, my recently acquired 86 Venture Royale. And the one in my shop is an 89 Venture Royale, i usually prefer riding the Ventures over the Gl1500 bikes.
I would love to have a Gl1800 but thats some serious money, rarely are they under $10,000.

The funny thing about the GoldWing is that back in my 20s I never gave them much thought, but now that I am 54, the older I get, the more appealing it looks...
 
I know a guy that ditched his max and got an 05 wing. Thing is amazing quick for how big it is, and can out corner me all day long! It has 97K on the clock and no problems whatsoever.
 
I wondered how much real difference there is between the 1500 and 1800 bikes. I ve never had a car on two wheels, and if a 1500 bike would suit me fine, then I might look at those. But the 1800 bikes are getting cheaper. You get ALOT of bang for the buck with the new bikes, even though they are costly, man all the doodads and gizmo's..... not that I need 3/4 of it.

I just want a laid back cross country tourer.

That was my whole reason for getting a spyder. I am going to get another 2 wheeled machine for 1 up riding, but at this point, I would like to get something that my wife can enjoy with me. As for the difference between the 1500 and 1800, the 1800 handles better in the curves. I have heard that the 1500 is better for long slab runs over the interstate tho.

The difference between 1500 and 1800 is like night and day when it come to performance.The 1800 will run circles around the 1500.But the first gen venture is a good match for the 1800.But for touring only either wing would be fine.
 
I am not worried about performance as long as I am not going to get run over at highway speeds and be dreading mountain passes going up.

I guess I should rephrase that and say I don't need ZX14 performance LOL.
 
I would say if you are hauling a ton of gear the gl1800 would have the edge over the gl1500, or a camping trailer, the Gl1500 is a classic, i have no problems working or modding them, the gl1800 has an aluminum frame and some riders say its more cramped for tall riders. I sometimes cruise over to the Gl1800 forums, biggest gripes is about the nav system.
