I am a VERY good bullshitter, so once the time comes that I can actually call them, I will at least be comfortable doing it! lol
I really don't want to call them though. The weirdness of that situation is almost making me NOT want to pursue this car. I tried to get my lawyer to do it for me and he wouldn't. Jerk.
Maybe I can find a friend who's going to school for law....they would be able to talk their way through it!

The fact your lawyer would not touch it, should be an indication that you may want to think long and hard about this....

my $0.02 :)

Best thing I heard anyone say was give the parents a percentage. They'd probably thank you for your services, as they probably don't know the situation.

At the very least you need to contact the parents and let them know the honest situation. The car will be towed (stored, i.e. money outta their pockets), its busted to ****, you are interested in fixing it up and selling it for a price.

Abandonment laws are different wherever you go, its two weeks here, and after two weeks its yours, but they will contact the owners of the car and tell them it has been abandoned.

Do the right thing here brother. Don't take advantage of these people. They probably have a loan on the car, and don't deserve to get bent over just because their kid is ALLEGEDLY a duesche bag.

I can help with Chinese, but no Vietnamese. :confused2: haha

It's not that my lawyer wouldn't touch it. He just said that he wouldn't call the parents for me. He did tell me that it all sounds ok ONLY IF I have the title signed over and a bill of sale. Unless I have those papers in my hands, the car doesn't budge.

I think I'm going to do that. I just really don't want to call them. Kinda nervous I guess you could say.

all is good "IF" you can get the title - otherwise you'll get your arse sued and it'll cost you more than it was ever worth.
And I stress that's a big "IF" :):rofl_200:

Hey man, I drive a Daewoo!
A Scion would be a Caddilac to me. As much as I like the Woo, it is truly the bottom-feeder car of all time.

Bill, are you bragging about the Daewoo?!?:rofl_200:

I once had an 88 Hyundai. It sucked so bad I could see the bottom of your Daewoo from where it was on the food chain.

I bought a 1996 Tercel sport when gas went through the roof. I remember being embarassed about it and such. Then I started saving 300 bucks every month in gas. Then the money I saved in oil (it uses like 3 quarts instead of 5). Then the money I save because nothing has broke.

I actually love my tercel these days. I find myself taking a little more care of it (like the 100% new bakes - all painted up with sturdy black brake paint). I re-painted the rims and such (yup the SPORT came with H U G E 14 inch rims :p).

Don't get me wrong... I really miss my LS1 Trans Am - and will likely have another some day - but the Tercel won me over with it's rugged and frugal charm!

The last few posts remind me of the movie "Taxi" when the woman says "oh man, I've got Daewoo on my hands!!!" hahahah

Well, I didn't get the car. My cuz hooked a chain to it and dragged it out onto the side of the street. She's already gone out of that apartment too.

I did find out from the court that an Indiana resident could apply for an abandoned title. In order to do so, the vehicle has to be on YOUR property and once you apply for the abandoned title, the owner has 30 days to do something with the car (as long as there is no lien). So then she would have had to apply for the abandoned title, wait 30 days until she could legally take possession of the car, and then sign the title over to me.
If only she had told me about this damn car a LONG time ago. The effing thing has been in the same spot since October. Oh well.

I just read this thread and was quite relieved to read that it did not work out.

Here is some free legal advice ... DO NOT get involved in stuff like this. Come on now, there is no free lunch and you know that.

Want more bad news? You could have gotten that car and the title and then spent time and money to fix it up only to end up having it repossessed by a lien holder with a superior claim and you would have been screwed with no way to get your time and money back.

There are several other legal problems here too with your original approach. I am surprised the lawyer you spoke with didn't talk a bit of sense into you.
