3D Printed Carb Covers

I've been tinkering around with Fusion for a few months now and decided to try modeling the carb covers for the gen 1. It took a few versions to get to the last one with the fork logo. I'm still tinkering around with the design, but I'll upload it to Thingiverse eventually. The current one uses a slot and two spacers underneath to replicate the distance of the rubber grommet and washer. I would have designed it with a larger hole, but couldn't find all my hardware. Let me know what you guys think. Total print time was 12.5 hours per cover at 100% infill with Priline carbon PLA on a Creality Ender 3

You are very good at Fusion360! Did you ever try if the Priline PLA resists the heat? I have quite bad experience with PLA-CF, its kinda rubbish in my opinion if it comes to physical or temperature related challenges. My reflex would be using PA-GF, PA-ABS or if I am into colors, ABS. But I guess you wont be successful with your Ender using these filaments.

Anyhow - very nice design! If you decide uploading it, I would probably print them during my summer break.

My ender has a micro swiss hot end to print more exotic filaments. If the PLA I'm using can't hold up, I'm going to try the carbon PETG from Atomic I have and if that doesn't work, I have carbon nylon I haven't used much of. I know PLA can anneal from heat cycling so maybe it'll work in the long run. Or it'll melt when summer comes.

You are aware that plastics can be chromed. There are specialist companies that can do this, either by plating or vapour deposition of aluminium (ok, so not chrome but results in mirror finish) and also chrome says, see

Wrapping in metallised film is another option.

Yea they are nice, creative. If I were to get anything other than a stock set it would be the Exactrep eye candy. Their CNC guy is turning out some nice stuff.

I've never seen a spray chrome actually work well. But gold / silver foil clear coated is very easy to do and pretty cheap.
