Y'all need to let this go or accept the challenge. The challenge sounds fun for y'all track types. The challenge also sounds darn honest and the gentleman has now offered to make his max track ready for your pleasure.

All that said, why dispute the claims? Stock looking means very little as far as mods go. Heck, I've built my share of sleeper cages ... surprised many a Ferarri and Porsche when the beat-up, grocery getter bmw 2002 dusted them with help from the M3 motor, dog leg 5 speed, and 4 wheel coil over suspension hiding within (track, of course). Yes, it is harder to hide mods on a Max, but nothing is impossible. Point is: there is a big difference between stock and "stock looking." Give Sean a 5 figure budget and the mission to build a "stock looking" Gen 1 ... you may well see the 9s.

Yes, I have an insane appreciation for the sleepers. I don't see much payoff in making a sleeper out of a Max since it's pretty much a target for anything that does go fast well.

Share the love.

Man nuts the hole thing post my times a few weeks back and hell broke lose, My baby girl bike runs mid 9s... I posted her bike in my pics here.

Not a lot nice things side here, after reading back over this,

No 1 beat down here, nothings called out. bull **** artiest like that 1....

There's a local vmax guy that has a stock vmax running high 9s in the VA.MD. location. I meet 1 him time Colonial Beach drag trip. I never race him though.
I'm not racing my vmax at the track any more. Just doing the cruising seen now.

9nub I dont see stock looking I see stock Vmax.

I dont give a **** if you throw a stock vmax off a mountain, it wont run 9's. The prepped Vmax's Pee Wee Gleason rode with his light weight jockey ass on it only ran 10.60's. He was a pro rider on a prepped bike. A stock Vmax in an average persons hands is capable of high 11's to low 12's. The same bike in a capable persons hands will run low 11's to maybe a 11.0. Every once in awhile you will find a 10.99 out of a stock bike with a lightweight capable person.

I just watched a built Vmax run 10.70's. I am sure its faster with a more experienced capable rider on it. Because my stock with exhaust only Vmax ran 11.0's consistently. My stock with exhaust and jets Vmax ran 10.80's.

So to run 9's on a Vmax is going to take ALOT more than a simple bolt on unless its juice. And to get it in the 9's on the bottle is going to break something after a few passes. You would probably need atleast 60-80 more horsepower than what a stock vmax makes, which would put it in the 170-190 range at the rear wheel.

Jagco if you can run a 10.0@144 mph on a stock or almost stock Vmax.... post up a time slip and a video when you do it.

I am sure if Mark was inclined enough to meet up with you at a track he will bring a video camera. And Mark if you do, let me know, I ll try and make it down myself just to further the competition a little more ;)

Does anyone know the bike or rider in the first post video....worth asking what's it got or not got....

I like the challenge thing but now I here setting my bike up for the track. I did have my bike lowered a bit & got where I was running pretty consistant High 10's with a Marks pipe & Stage 7 but that was how I rode my bike every day . I did not do any thing different to it when I took it to the track no different fuels taking off parts etc no air shifter no light weight wheels. In fact I had a Kosman rear wheel which added weight. I did put an air shifter & dymags on it but only got to run it once before I tore it apart & I had a hard time launching trying to get to used to the weight difference the best I ran was 10.962 that night . Other than that my runs were 10.98 to 10.99 I weighed 204 in my birthday suit at the time never weighed with all my gear on but any way I am not a light weight.

PeeWee ran in the 9's years ago with a stock engined bike so I know it can easily be done. As noted I also personally saw a guy run 9.44 on a turbo chain drive vmax and he weighed at least 350lbs so easily low 9's or eights with a light guy.

It can be done but just not with a mostly stock bike (or even appearing bike).

The prepped Vmax's Pee Wee Gleason rode with his light weight jockey ass on it only ran 10.60's.

He rode that bike and the article was in Cycle World, the Article was "Taking it to the 9's" and he ran a 9.6 sec quarter. The Bike had different wheels, carbs and a wheelie bar.

CW did a superbike shootout article featuring Jay riding a Vmax and two other superbikes by competing manufacturers entitled, "Takin' It To The Nines". Officially, the Vmax in 1985 ran in the low 10s. However, in this follow up article, Jay did get the Vmax into the nines, but the times were unofficial. The featured bikes were set up for the drag strip, complete with wheelie bar, racing slick, & whatever else little secret tricks they do for making stock motorcycles travels straight & true with maximum traction for best speed & time. It's a very cool article. (I apologize for any and all inaccuracies - it's been a long time since I read the article!)

The last time I saw that bike it was sitting in John Furbers shop in Allentown several years ago still fitted with the spoke wheels. At that time it had over 60,000 miles on it and had an old corbin Seat (Original three piece) which I traded and have on my bike now.
