Re: I'll send $10 via Paypal to the guy with the answer.

Not as of yet but about 5 minutes ago I got a new set of pickup coils in the mail so I'm ganna stick those in right now! Wish me luck. As a side note, I got BRAND NEW, in the yamaha bag still, pickup coils for $50 shipped!

The offer still stands, I'll send 10$ to whoever diagnosis my Max's problem first. I put the brand new pickup coils in it today...and nothing. New plugs and nothing, checked fuses and nothing. Checked kill switch and kick stand circuits with no result. I'm thinkin maybe my ICU bellied up? Does anyone have one? How often does it actually happen? My ability to think in a logical fashion is going to shit. I'm at that stage where I wanna kick the bike over and rip somthing apart...

Please help?

Did you bypass the sidestand relay (located up and under the CDI box mounting bracket on the left side) Will have a blue cap and 4 wires. I can send anything you want to test with! Just email me directly.

Sean

Haven't bypassed it but it functions normally to my understanding, in desperate and will try anything. How does one bypass this little bugger?

i still think your main computer is shot, the TCI/CDI whatever its called.

I've got the idea that either the TCI,CDI or ICU is burned... I know what the ICU is but the others I have no clue. What's most likely to burn out first and what's the difference?

Hey Ace, Jeff Hubeer offered to give you a dyno3000 ignition if you wanted it, you just have to run Android inline resistor to each o e of your cops.

I have no clue what an ICU is.

CDI stands for Computerized Digital Ignition, and is found on most modern bikes, but not on the Gen I Vmax.

TCI stands for Transistor Controlled Ignition, and that is what our Gen I Vmax use.

So most of the time on the Vmax, the TCI goes to shit, either burns out or develops dry solder joints or whatever, with the result of no ignition - no spark bike won't start.

Hope this helps..

I.C.U Intensive care unit :rofl_200::rofl_200::rofl_200: sounds like maybe he could use one for his bike!(sorry,I couldnt resist)

Re: I'll send $10 via Paypal to the guy with the answer.

Electrical systems can be a real PITA. I think someone else mentioned putting a meter on your battery and checking voltage before, during, and after cranking. Did you pull the plugs and ground them, checking for spark? Couldn't hurt to pull up a wiring schematic and track things down with a voltmeter. I've seen keyswitches go halfass bad and do some crazy things, it'll drive you insane!

Anything new on this yet. I'm hoping your fix is my fix. Me and my ASE mechanic went through a bunch of crap yeasterday with the his meter checking gor power, ground, voltages. We did something that actually fired a plug to get a single explosion out the exhaust. Not really an explosion but a pop and small flame. So, hurry the f-$k up and get this thing running!

Where did u find pickup coils for 50 bucks at??..any luck yet?I'm following your post since I've got an 86..never know when mine might take a big dump on me

I'm responding from a cell phone my internet is down. So far it looks like ti coulf be a kickstand relay. However, I need to find my bypass diagram to find out. Ill let you know what happens. Found the pick up coils on ebay, as a side not I now have a used set if anyone needs them. Thanks y'all! Ill letcha know how it goes,

Looks like you won Sean... Kick stand relay. I'm beating myself senseless over somthing so simple! Shoot me a PM with where to send your $10. Thanks bud you saved the day again.

How did I bypass it you ask? Easy, one of friendly forum members tought me that all it takes to bypass it is to cut the black/white striped wire.

No thanks Sean, if I don't replace it...I know it won't burn out. One less thing to worry about burning out later!
