maxmidnight...well there were 2 reasons: firstly because I didn't know what condition the engine was in (it had blown a head gasket hence why I got it so cheap) and secondly because I've never taken an engine apart so I wanted to learn. In fact I have never done anything like this before. But ever since I was about a foot high I've always wanted a project like this one so yay for me for getting one sorted :)

one2dmax...I live in the UK! Your business looks awesome, but the distance is a problem. I'm afraid I'll have to scavenge around here in England :)

I've got one more question...how do I get rid of the carbon on the top of the piston? I was thinking of maybe using petrol as a solvent

I have ordered a TON of shipments from Sean for local guys.
The shipping fee is high, yes.

But still very good deal!

Good on yer mate - it's nice to know that there are curious folk out there that want to improve their knowledge.

If not already done so then log in to V Max Chat. There are plenty of us folk here in the UK who are happy to offer time and advice. If you want to have a chat about your project then let me know.
Also if you need any parts post your needs, they will often come up trumps, always reasonably priced and frequently for the cost of postage.

Re the carbon - it's not a bad thing to have a coating on the top of the piston. It acts as a heat insulator and motors perform better if you keep as much of the heat in the combustion space as you can.

However, we all want to see shiny surfaces.
All petrol will do is remove any petroleum based material - it won't touch the carbon. For that you will need a scraper.
If it is a soft deposit then use a half inch or so wide piece of aluminium sheet.
For harder encrustations I have an old 1" chisel that does the job. It's important that you have the piston well supported so that you can use both hands to control the scraper and don't go at it too hard!

Bead Blast the pistons. Will make them look new!

As noted we ship all over the world. I am actually shipping an entire engine (less heads) to Argentina right now. We are cleaning it to be ready for assembly (it's got to ship in 5 or 6 packages). We could ship complete but then the customs would hit you hard.

I stock tons of OEM parts (and aftermarket) and especially parts for engine building. Like, in your case I would suggest our ARP head studs. Will help prevent another blown head gasket.
