The U.S. government has just passed a new law called: "The Affordable Boat Act" declaring that every citizen MUST purchase a new boat, by April 2014.
These "affordable" boats will cost from $54,000 to $155,000 each. This does not
include taxes, trailers, towing fees, licensing and registration fees, fuel, docking and storage fees, maintenance or repair costs.

This law has been passed because until now, typically only wealthy and financially responsible people have been able to purchase boats. This new law ensures that every American can now have a "affordable" boat of their own, because everyone is "entitled" to a new boat. If you purchase your boat before the end of the year, you will receive 4 "free" life jackets; not including monthly usage fees.

In order to make sure everyone purchases an affordable boat, the costs of owning a boat will increase on average of 250-400% per year. This way, wealthy people will pay more for something that other people don't want or can't afford to maintain. But to be fair, people who can't afford to maintain
their boat will be regularly fined and children (under the age of 26) can use their parents boats to party on until they turn 27; then they must purchase their own boat.

If you already have a boat, you can keep yours (just kidding; no you can't). If you don't want or don't need a boat, you are required to buy one anyway. If you refuse to buy one or can't afford one, you will be regularly fined $800 until you purchase one or you will face imprisonment.

Failure to use the boat will also result in fines. People living in the desert, ghettos, inner cities or areas with no access to lakes are not exempt. Old age, motion sickness, lack of experience, no-knowledge or lack of desire are unacceptable excuses for not using your boat.

A government review board (that doesn't know the difference between the port, starboard, bow or stern of a boat) will decide everything, including: when, where, how often and for what purposes you can use your boat along with how many people can ride in your boat and will determine if one is too old or

healthy enough to be able to use their boat. They will also decide if your boat has outlived its usefulness or if you must purchase specific accessories, (like a $500 compass) or a newer and more expensive boat. Those who can afford yachts will be required to upgrade....it's only fair.

The government will also decide the name for each boat. Failure to comply with these rules will result in fines and possible imprisonment. Government officials
are exempt from this new law. If they want a boat, they and their families can

obtain boats free, at the expense of taxpayers. Unions, bankers and mega companies with high level political affiliations ($$$) are also exempt.

If the government can force you to buy health care, they can force you to buy a boat....or ANYTHING else. Yeah...it's that stupid. :ummm:

Copied/pasted. Oh yeah.

Doesn't make it any less meaningful. Or do you only agree with ideas which originate in your own head? Sometimes others do have valid thoughts, which should be shared. Did you see our bad precedent (excuse me, I mean president) stumbling over himself on TV this morning trying to apologize for the "mistakes" of this abomination (excuse me, administration)?

I took it to mean copied/pasted for reuse elsewhere, but an accusation of plagiarism. Clearly it's an emotive subject like gun control, which we Brits largely view with bemusement, but in this case I think you're misreading intent/malice.

If that's true I apologize, but historically "copy/paste" is usually meant in a derogatory sense, meaning the poster is not presenting his own thoughts.

I have met jfaegins in person..GREAT individual, and I know for a fact that he did not mean it in a derogatory way. He is conservative by nature.

EDIT....American conservitive...not British conservitive. British conservitive is actually like American Liberals....and American consertives are like the British Tories

That's good to know. And I didn't mean to sound harsh in my response, but in many forums, the "copy/paste" thing can bring a tirade of "don't you have thoughts of your own, rather than regurgitating posted garbage". I just thought some here might identify with the tongue-in-cheek comparison.

I don't want to thread hijack, but the Tories are the Conservative party and are pretty liberal by U.S. conservative standards. Labour would probably be considered dirty communists by most over there. They're all as self serving as each other really. I think I'll stop here, I don't usually do politics in public. ;-)

Thank you for the clarification.

LOL...Believe me.....there are a LOT of people here that can identify..

"A government big enough to give you everything you want, is a government big enough to take away everything that you have." which is attributed to Gerald Ford in the 50's.

Sorry for the confusion. I assure you, I copied your original post. Then promptly pasted/spread it around the office here. I agreed with the sentiment it contained 1,000,010%. :biglaugh:

Thanks for the clarification, and I sincerely apologize for my misinterpretation. :biglaugh:

No sweat. I came to realize a loooong time ago: If I post, it WILL be misunderstood. I sometimes lack good communications skills, and I am really, really bad about making the sarcasm font work in my favor too.
