Air Filters, Yes or No

My plugs are off white. stock jetting, 5000+ alt. shimmed needles and 4 coils are tied on the springs. Bike runs great considering the altitude.
An acquantance has a Max with the "Y" removed----- My bike has much better low end and we are about the same on top.

Virtually all the engines we've had apart with catastrophic engine failures have been from running flatslides (mostly UFO's though that doesn't make all that much difference). As with most flatslides getting a decent filter (of any kind) isn't very simple.

My FCR flatslides have round UNI filters on them i bought from PCW.They work verry well and are easy to clean & oil.Just make sure you do it once a year to prevent fires. The oil wetted foam filter IMHO is excelent,been working in dirt bikes for years!

I need to pick up a set of those for my flatslides. The only issue is that I run a "Dial-a-jet" setup that only works with the velocity stacks. Have to think about this one a bit:confused2:

I have the same filters on my vmax John at PCW said never to oil the filters due to the foam being so thick also my vmax dynoed 154 with the foam filters with velocity stacks and no filters she pulled 166.7 111.8 torque, Marcus Hickman has a stock motor and put flatsides on it right after he bought it new and has NEVER HAD THE AIR FILTERS on because they caught on FIRE he now has 70k on the bike and uses 1/4 quart of oil between changes now note he doesnt ride on dirt roads strickly asphalt. I did, and now it's in a box packaged up to ship to Sean Morley:biglaugh: Now have a set of 41mm FCR's (S/N 183 from PCW). Bike is running like a champ!!

I never understood how people with vgas thought that it was smart... Not to mention the a-hole that walks up and pours something down the stack, which you KNOW has happened.

If I did flat slides (which I will NEVER do) I'd have the ones where the filters are inside under the faux.

Yes, the occasional beer, and dirt, bugs, leaves, etc. Not to mention the sudden drizzle or rain storm. I would never run w/o filters, especially the carbs that have the stacks sticking out of the sides.
