After 2 1/2 months of waiting for my shaft/gears to be Tig welded then turned down by a machinist ( custom parts from my MadMax transfer case for my 250 swingarm) I finally got ahold of the guy who has my parts ( same guy that fixed it last time it broke) he said the guy he uses to do his welding is mad at him and never even picked up my fucking parts so after all this time my parts are no closer to being fixed than when I dropped them off!!! Fuck!! So, I called Paul at MadMax and he said " yea, those first ones I made had that problem" and he now makes the shaft/ gear all one piece but to buy the new ones it's $490.00 each ( I need 2). So I guess I know I have to get the one piece ones but I'm way too poor right now to put $980 out to fix it. I'm fucked. Now I have a bike that I haven't been able to ride all summer and have no idea when I'll be able to afford getting them. I'm just looking for someone who can Tig weld the ones I have and turn them down so I can salvage whats left of the riding season till I can buy the new ones. I've been waiting for my family's estate settlement but my aunt and uncles are so greedy the wont agree on anything so that may still take awhile. But if anyone knows of someone that could help me I'd really appreciate it. My next move is going to be to part this thing out and buy a different bike. I really don't want to do that to my baby but I really am backed into a corner. Damn it!!!!

I have taken a few things to Ed Fish machine shop. Its right by rock airport. Just a few minutes from the mills where we met last year. They dont work for free but its always been reasonably priced. Carl or Ed is who you want to talk to.

Thanks Mike, I'll try them and see if thats something they may be able to do. Do you know if they do Tig welding? I'll just give them a call tomorrow and see. I appreciate it. Maybe they know of a machinist to take it from welding to turn it down too. Thanks again Mike, Ed

Ed , I can tig weld but I'd like to see what I may be getting into first. Can you post a couple good pics of the break, and find out from Paul(MADMAX) (I think they call him that cause he's nuts) what kind of material it is. and you may need to have it heat treated after the machining process? welding will make it brittle in the heat affected zone

Yes they TIG weld. They just did my aluminum engine cases, they do steel as well. Its a pretty comprehensive little shop. I would be surprised if they could not do the maching also.

The break is right above the roller bearing as you can see. That's the one that's completely broke and the other one is cracked. I have a new shaft to be cut for the one as you can see the teeth are kinda messed up on the one also. I'll talk to Paul and see what material they are but if I remember he said it needs to be welded with stainless or Tigged. Thanks and let me know if you'd be interested in undertaking this. Thanks again, Ed

Ed, does that top spline need to be "timed"with the bottom gear? and the one thats cracked...... your having a new spline made for that one, then you (or whoever) are going to cut it off and replace it with the new one, correct?

stainless or tigged? you can tig anything, aluminum, stainless or mild steel, if he recommends tiging it , it can be done with stailess, what grade does he recomend?

I know a guy close to my place that might be able to help you with a tig weld.
call me if you want his name and number, he is very reasonable too

We have a tig machine here at the shop and an aircraft certified welder doing the work for us. His welds are cut and xray'd every three months to keep his cert. I'm sure it would be done as right as it can get. Again a weld loses strength because of the metallurgy change and a one piece would be better but this will do in the meantime.

Sean, if you could take this on I'll have them on their way tomorrow. So let me know if your interested in doing this if not I'm gonna have to find out from Paul ( MadMax) what type of metal they are to see if Rick or whoever else wants to try. Thanks to everyone and anyone who can please help me, Ed.

Send it here. Still best to find out what metal or what rod he's using. We'd probably just use the higher end stainless rod which can weld the lower end stuff and plain mild steel. You have my email. Don't forget to send the master if you want us to fix that too.

Ed , if Sean has a certified aircraft guy , he's got me trumped, he's the guy to go to, he may even have an oven for pre and post heating.( my cert just says I"m sane now)

Lol, I never questioned your sanity Rick, I just kinda figured the "twisted" part had something to do with it but, hey who am I to judge? Your good people Rick and was glad to get to meet you at thunder even though I had to cage it to get up there this year. But you can bet if we both get a chance to go next year we can hopefully do some riding together. I really do appreciate your offer to try. I'll keep you posted on how it works out. I'm gonna call up Paul again and hopefully get ahold of him since he didn't call today so Sean has a heads up of what type of metal used for the parts and rod. But Thanks again Rick and if I can ever do anything for you feel free to call anytime, Ed

Ed, Elizabeth may even know, lol, if Paul doesnt call back
