Hi everyone,

I finally purchased a 1985 vmax 2 weeks ago. Drove it back home with out a problem (approx 650 km or 400 miles), but it does need some tlc. I'm going out to the shop to clean the carbs and check the timing chain due to some excessive engine noise. I've already used information from this very helpful Vmax forum. This is a great site, thanks for sharing this information.

I have a v45 Magna and a GSXR750 but I've always wanted a Vmax since they came out in 85. What a fun bike to ride, great torque and such a nice engine sound.

I've attached a photo of the bike if any one is interested. I kind of like the orange paint.

Anyway, be safe out there.

Cheers

Picked up my new to me '06 V-max two weeks ago. It only had 2,073 miles on it and in mint condition. Giving it a rest after putting about 1,600 miles on it. Time to wash it again.:th_signs54:

Jagco1, This is where you want to be! welcome to theee GEN I site.I hope I helped with you questions , but if not your answers are all right here!

I have been lurking here for a while, but did not want to post here until I had another Vmax.

I bought my first Vmax brand new off the show room floor in Roseburg, Oregon in 1987. It was a brand new non-current 1985 model. I sold the bike in the mid-90s and always regretted it. The gen 1 Vmax is without question one of the greatest bikes ever produced, in my mind a true living legend.

Now that I am a bit older, and more importantly a little bit more financially stable, it is time own a Vmax once again.

This 2001 is an eBay purchase, with a little over 7000 miles on the clock. There are some problems that were not disclosed by the seller.

  • Both fork seals are shot, and the forks are virtually empty of oil.
  • The fork oil leaked on to both front brake calipers and the pads are soaked in fork oil, and the front brake is useless.
  • The carbs are a mess. The bike will not run without the choke partially on. Even then it pops and sputters.
  • The battery is shot and will not hold a charge.
  • The steering stem bearings are loose and need to be adjusted.
All of that said, the bike is in great cosmetic condition, and I cannot wait to get the other problems taken care of. I have asked the seller to help pay for repairs that could have and should have been disclosed....we'll see. All I can say is buyer beware on eBay.

Here are some pictures.

Man that really blows. This is why I would NOT ever purchase a truck or bike w/ out seeing it first unless they were HIGHLY recomended from a good friend . I hope the last owner mans up & takes care of some of the cost or parts ,but him not telling you about them issues from the start knowing you are buying it unsceen makes me think he's not very honest. Good Luck..

Thank's Maxx. Yep there's nothing wrong with the bike that cannot be taken care of without to much trouble. I appreciate the support.
