This is still a work in progress, but I wanted to share what I am doing to my 2005 vmax. I purchased off ebay some 3watt high output LED pods for auxiliary driving lights. I will upload pictures of the mounting brackets and how they look. I wired them off the actual headlight with an on off toggle switch. All left for me to do is align them to the right projection height and its done. I think they turned out pretty good all in all.

how bright? shot of them lighting something up?

At Deal's Gap there was a guy with a 10W LED mounted on his helmet. That was outrageously bright!

He said they were $120 a pop, and can get them anytime.

Hey guys,

As I stated, its work in progress. They are mounted but still not aligned if you noticed. I will have to pull the bike out one night to align them up against the garage and take some pictues. FYI, I run a xenon 90/100watt bulb in my vmax so these lil babies are bright and pure white too. I bet they would look better up against the HID bulbs at 4500kv. I will get more pictures as I finalize the setup. I plan to ride the bike this week when the weather breaks. My purpose was for more lighting since I ride to work in the early morning before sunrise. I put the switch in place to allow me to leave them off during the daytime riding. The switch works great wired to the light. The hardest part was fabricating the 2 piece mounting brackets from galvanized steel bent to L brackets. Totally adjustable although now.

Curious as to the price and more info on these LED pods? Here is the ebay link:

Ok, here are some pics of the lights off and on now. I tried in the street, but my digital camera takes blurry pics in the dark. Let me know if these suffice.

i like 'em. i'll tell ya why. i have the highest sylvannia bulb u can buy in my bike. high beams work great but then the area right in front of u gets dark. if these coudl light up the front of me while keeping high beams on. that is a sick mod.

nice, does it make a big difference for you while driving at night??

garrett, you using sliverstar sylvannia bulb or something different?? H4 i take it?

yea sylvannia silverstar ultra. most expensive H4 bulb sylvannia makes. love it.

Garrett, I too installed the Sylvaina Silverstar and it was a marked improvement in lighting over stock. But I still wanted more so I ordered the eastern beaver H4 relay kit which makes the headlight a lot better than just the silverstar upgrade. I still need to realign the headlight b/c when I go from high beam to low beam it's kinda scary bcause the light is aimed too low and at 60mph I'm going waaay too fast for the way it's aimed.
Having Aux driving lights would be nice due to the fact that 90% of the roads I ride on are 2 lanes in a heavily wooded rural setting, with lots of wildlife crossing the roads. Also the ability to remove them easily when not needed would be a plus.

For some reason I thought mine were 3watt LEDs, but the link does state 1watt LED. RedBones link shows 3watt LEDs which would be 3 times mine. I just may go try those too in the process. My bulb is just a cheap xenon 90/100watt bright white bulb which I do like. These auxilary lights do make a difference filling in the area below the headlight beam. Fabrication is not all that hard using bendable steel and just drilling the holes out. Removal is just a matter of unscrewing them from the headlight mounting plate.

I just checked with the ebay seller and he states the ones I have are indeed 3watt LEDs since that all he ships now.

Check out mine in my album i have a pair mounted in my engine guards and yes they are bright but not sure on wattage . Dont really do much night riding but did the other night to find they werent working . There was a clicking from somewhere round fuse box under Faux tank by seat when you turn them on off . Any ideas ? :ummm:

Hey Gunrunner, sounds like a bad relay if you hear clicking. Alot of lights will use a relay to regulate the flow of electricity to the lights. Just trace your wires. You might have to get a new relay, but they can be purchased at the local auto shops fairy cheap.

Gunruner, looking at your profile photo album, I don't see any pictures of any lights mounted to your engine guards? Am I missing something?

I'm running a set of Kuryakyn Silver Bullets off my Engine guards w/ 42W MR16 bulbs (vs the stock 20W)...work great and really light up the road....

However, I have been looking at replacing them with a set of LED MR16s to drop the load off the stator (this set in particular)....I was worried about how well the LEDs would project the light and wasn't willing to drop the cash for just an experiment that may or may not work. Although, now I might have to go ahead and jump.

def something to keep in my hat. nice idea. what would yall wire them into, the headlight circuit?
