Bad pickup coil?

Back again. Been out of town for work for the past 3 weeks so I’ve just been able to start tinkering with it again. Still stumped. I borrowed a cdi box from a buddies parts vmax, still no spark. So far I’ve verified that the pick up coil, ignition coils, spark plugs, battery and I think everything else in the ignition system is working as it should. At this point I’m throwing everything at the wall to see what sticks. Maybe a loose ground? Maybe it could still somehow be the cdi box? I’ve read that a good bit of cdi boxes go bad on the earlier models like mine. And if that’s the case, how do you go about testing the box?

If you’re referring to the cdi box wiring then yes. Seemingly no shorts or breaks in that whole harness.

Was the TCI you borrowed off a 90 or up ?

To test ignitor, check input voltage on red/white wire. Otherwise, need oscilloscope or Ignitech to check p/u coil input signals.

I believe it was off of a ‘92. However it had been sitting for quite a while.

When you say 'seemingly' did you check you had continuity using a meter or bulb and battery to all of the components between the ICU and associated components? Also did you check that you had battery voltage at the coils?

Yeah I spent the better part of yesterday going back and forth between the wiring diagram and the bike checking every connection in the ignition system. Found no faults.
