Ok so I pull up to the garage and turn the bike off, and wanted it closer so I went to start it, and nothing. Then smoke from the Apex battery. Ground terminal was fn hot. Like burnt my finger hot. Checked the battery voltage and 12.04v. Tried my old batter but that ***** has no life in her and won't keep a charge. This Apex is like three to four months old tops. Bike ran great just before this happened. It was a 12 mile ride to the garage, and was good the whole time.

Any thoughts from some who may have went they this

Call them. They have a year or 2 warranty. They do stand behind what they sell. Ask Steve-o.

I might. Debating the Apex brand. Maybe it's time to change brand of battery. I have a few issues going on that I will have to fix, but that battery was already something I wasn't impressed with from the start. It was low on voltage and took a good charge and tender to get it to where it should have been. For the buck, maybe it's ok.

I'm no fan of the Apex battery, but it might not be to blame. Check battery and frame ground integrity. But foremost, the R/R. make sure it isn't overcharging. Also, switch your meter to the A/C function and make sure you aren't getting A/C voltage to the battery. A minimal amount of A/C is allowable. .5 volts maximum A/C voltage.
Shorie batteries are worth the $$. Amazon has them @$145 when on sale. Even at regular price, they're an install and ride battery. 13.3 volts out of the box. Don't let the tiny size and low weight fool you.

Lol, I won't let size or weight fool me. That's what I took in consideration when switching to the Apex. My RR could be junk, but is there a resistance test that can be performed to that without the bike running? Just asking off hand, can always wait till home and look in the manual. I looked up the shorai battery, not bad specs. I took what Blax had said in consideration and emailed Apex about my battery. Still waiting for a reply back, guess it's time to tie up loose ends with electrical

I have run this with the battery for 2 1/2 years and have never had to charge the battery once.

They sent me one right away. Great customer service, but quality slipped from the USB they claim the Apex is replacing. The second one I got was not good. I use it on the bench for a power source, but not cranking my bike.

Ok, Apex never got back via email so I had called them. Talked to a guy, and have to fill out a information form. The rep was saying that it's the wrong battery to use in a motorcycle and these are meant for home upc backup power supplies. I'm not expecting them to replace that battery at all. Won't ever buy another Apex battery because they aren't for our bikes. I'll spend the extra money to get what I really need for the bike.

^ That's a shame.
I put an APX12220 in my Vmax about a year ago and it is always at 12.9-13 or so volts and cranks my bike great.
I only put it on my trickle charger every few months just because even though it doesn't actually need it.
Apparently you and Steve got a bad one.

I use an Interstate AGM battery sized for a Gold Wing. That battery could jump start Frankenstien..
Along with a new heavy duty stator and a Series type regulator, cranking is not a problem.

Bill, I'll be running your route soon. Unfortunately money is pretty tight at the moment. It'll be a couple weeks or so unfortunately. What model did you use? Want to look them up.

Shindengen SH775. About $80.00 at a Polaris dealer. It uses the same plugs as the FH 020 regulator. Same size, too. I've got a brand new stator in Godzilla, and with the Series regulator, I get a charge of 14.4v right off idle. The charging system has never worked better.

I ordered the SH 775, to swap with my stock one on the 07. Hey, anything that I can do to increase the charging capabilities, and to make the stator last longer, I will do.

Thanks Bill.
