Sorry to be boring, but a windshield is first on the list. Mostly I just want to ride as much as possible before it gets cold.

I love the covers for the clutch and break. would also like to upgrade to SS lines. The center part of the seat has a nick in it, so I'd like to redo it.

My Honda has to be repainted before i can sell it, and there was some nicks in the tank and fender, so I'm thinking about painting. I'm thinking about the Cad diamond black color from a spray max 2k can.

I wish i still had my CNC mill. I would love to do a bunch of CNC stuff-but that's not going to happen.

I would **** can the stock seat. Wait till till you go on a long trip you will see what I mean & ask anyone on this site. The seat is usually the first to go. All 3 of the guys I mentioned sell custom seats. Ck em out

MI winters are long, you will have plenty of time to do mods!:biglaugh:

You are about 30 mi east of my buddy in Lake Orion/Oxford township. There is some good riding around there, where you are, I bet.

Planning a group ride on Sunday Sept 9th, check it out in the rides section......."Irish Hills Mi Ride"............Would be nice to meet/ride with ya!.........Tom.

Check your PM.

PS
A Carbtune is a necessity in my opinion:
http://www.carbtune.com/

It costs less than what many shops charge for a Carb Sync. and I do mine every spring.
So it pays for it self after 1 or 2 uses.

Thanks for this. I have a carb tuner already. Anything special about the carbtune over this?

I'm replacing my 83 Honda Shadow 750 that served as my starter bike, but has been on blocks more seasons than it hasn't. Blowing a head gasket was the last straw for the old girl. I love 80's bikes and was immediately drawn to the VMax because it was an 80's bike that happened to be manufactured up to 2007. The vBoost and muscle/sci-fi styling was just icing on the cake.

About the only things original to the 83 are the engine, shaft, and frame, and not even 100% of those. I love working on bikes, but I prefer to do it on my schedule instead of the bike's annoying habit of picking beautiful clear long weekends to blow a seal, or forget how to start. Especially when that weekend is in the middle of pay days!

To all modders and vendors here. I'm a computer geek of all sorts by trade, network and infrastructure, development, web and graphic design... you name it I do it or know somebody who can. I'm wide open to labor for labor trade, and wide open to fun things to do to the new bike. Starting in the winter anyway ;) I've done all I intend to while I can ride it, which was simply changing the oil and fixing up the front brakes that were gummed up and dragging... pretty sure the original owner didn't believe in using front brakes.

2006 is 100% stock and you all know what that looks like. Here are some photos of the bike it's replacing instead. It happens to be for sale as soon as this gasket fix is finished if anybody likes it.

I have the gauge set you indicated. Works great on my SOHC Honda 4. I'm hot sure, but I think it needs different probes for the Yamaha carbs- I may be wrong haven't looked on the V-max.

You guys should have NOT got me looking... I'm just picturing how good my ride would look with a Carbon fiber and black, with silver V-max logo seat...

Too bad I'm on SS. Back in the days when i had a JOB I be getting one on the way!

I'm saving pennies and making a list for the many winters ahead. Carbon fiber scoops are on it for sure!

For the more immediate need - my 'new to me' vmax is continuing to show some signs of disuse. Neutral has been hard to find since I got it - but it's becoming increasingly so. I changed the oil with 10w40 motorcycle oil and it's no better. Today I started it with kickstand up but with clutch pulled and in first and the thing jumped on me despite the clutch being pulled in.

I caught it but yeah clutch pulled in and still it engaged. There's also that I've got almost 300+ miles on it now. Neutral being hard to find isn't just learning the bike anymore... it's actually hard to find.

I don't want to do any more than necessary to this thing until Winter. So I'm going to try my luck with bleeding the clutch and hope that takes care of it. Which means I have to get those Phillips screws off the cover. I hate those things, they always inevitably strip and/or rust and look crappy.

Anybody have any luck with this guy?

Think I'd have any luck finding some allen drive screws that fit the clutch fluid reservoir at the local hardware store? I don't want to wait on shipping if I can help it.

:edit:
Scratch that I'm going to buy this ebay seller's bag o' bolts here. I'll probably get all 215 of em installed too over the long time this bike and I will spend together. :)

I'll just deal with the Phillips stuff while I'm waiting on it to arrive. At least I don't have to get upset if I slightly strip one or they start to rust once *gasp* a tool is applied to them.

most of those allen heads are available at your local ace or abuchon hardware. just bring one in to compare. i get SS

and its normal for the clutch to stick for a second while u start her even with the lever in. just put it in neutral next time and actuate it a few times before u start eh?

I already ordered the shiny kit but that's nice to know in case I end up losing one. I've been starting bikes and cars like that forever. Sometimes they pull a little, but this bike practically ran off on me. Almost a full tire rotation of pull... it's only done that a couple times. Other times it doesn't move at all.

eh? shure you arent Canadian? eh?:rofl_200:
yea those lil screws SUCK. im shure glad mine came out ok:punk:

I see you have found a kit on ebay but just as a FYI I have used the screw kits from Mike Sayers and they are great.

Cool thank you. I'll keep that in mind when I inevitably lose a few and want to order specifics as replacement vs paying for another 215 count bag.
