Is there a section or thread for " WORST LAUNCH EVER " This could be a contender

Darwin always has his day and the smart thing for that rider would be to walk away and never get on a bike again.

He made a simple mistake. One I ve seen people on this board make......

Not being a ****, but are you saying you never made a simple mistake? Maybe you didnt launch your bike up like that, but.....??

I'm definitely far from perfect and forgetting to put the bike on gear is one thing, flipping the bike is another. Maybe I should have suggested he go take a safety course instead, but inexperienced riding mistakes like that aren't always something you can walk away from.

In the end, this is the burn out pit... A thread like this is meant to be entertaining and this case at the expense of the poor rider in the video. Rag on the guy enjoy the laugh and move along to the next thread.

I think the people standing at the edge of track were saved by the riders miscue at the launch, could been a whole lot worse if he lost it when hitting second gear. :bang head:
Wait, I didn't see the safety tires set up to protect the spectators, my bad.

I know what you mean. I am just sayin, I ve been at the track and didn't have my bike in gear in the burnout pit. I didn't freak out and drop it in gear like this guy did. But I realized that I reved it up and let out the clutch and vroom.... lol.... yeah it was embarrassing, but at least I didn't launch the bike.

My bad Todd. When I first found this video, I had no idea in this world it was YOU that starred in it. I shoulda looked at the vid closer, and I would have recognized you. :biglaugh: Maybe I can get Buster to delete the whole embarrassing thread? :icon_rolleyes:

My most embarrassing moment came in 1979 when backing out of a parking spot at the municipal pool. When completely backed out astride my XS1100, I found out the hard way that a person should put the bike in neutral BEFORE simultaneously turning on the key switch AND hitting the starter button on that bike. F'kr jumped right out from under me there in front of witnesses!

I ve had that happen on old kick start bikes, it dropped in gear and I kicked it over and almost fell over LOL.

I was just commenting that there is no reason he shouldn't be on a bike, just because he made a mistake when he was screwing around. He was just being a hooligan that's all....

"Back in the day", on either my 1st or 2nd ever trip to the strip with my XS1100, I pulled a fair wheelie on the line, somehow crossed up the handlebars all the while coming out of the hole at just enough angle that I was in a trajectory to wipe out the tree. So much so, that my wife said the commentator shouted as much over the PA system while it was happening. But from my POV, I simply had a small wheelie going on, to the point I had to ease off the throttle to set it back down (kinda automatic for me anyway w/o having to think it), regain proper direction and continue the run. No huge deal from where I was sitting at the time, but I really do HATE wheelies, especially at the strip, as I'm sure most everyone does - or should.

My best run on that stock XS1100 was only a 12.40. My very first, and absolutely lousiest run on my brand new 1985 Vmax just happened to be a 12.40 too. I remember sitting on the start line and thinking "Oh shiit, I just broke 2nd gear" when the bike failed to leave the line. (all in slow motion) and seemingly 2 seconds later, I realized that if I had broken something, the bike wouldn't still be sitting there upright with both my feet on the pegs. At that same moment, I started to roll forward and realized the back tire was spinning in place. Had to let up on that run too in order to hook up and go. From then on, I always used someone else's VHT remnants to get the tire a bit gooier before each launch.

Nowadays, the only 2 tracks I've had the 09 on were prepped beforehand and so sticky I have trouble lifting my boot up and onto the pegs. Traction on the line is no longer an issue.
