I was wondering if anyone knows of or has heard of anybody converting a gen 2 vmax to chain driven. Thanks in advance for your input.
I am the originator of the chain conversion for the Yamaha Gen 1 and Gen 2 Vmax since 1985 and 2009. It makes your bike a hundred pounds lighter 2 inches lower no comparison in handling and mind boggling acceleration. Compared to a shaft driven V-max its like he shut his key off. You would be able to compete with a hayabusa and zx14. If you are interested in converting your V-max to chain drive you should give me a call 203-574-7859.

... inquiring, what would be the cost of the conversion, do you supply all of the components, will it work with the OEM 240 Wheel and can it be self-installed?

Hi Paul, I have the same question as WeMax and probably Bildo… and figure it’d be easier to answer once vs repeatedly . What’s the cost of everything needed? (Also, does it require splitting the case?)

You do have to pull the motor and split the cases. I do all the chain drive conversions at my shop but if anyone was confident to re assemble their motor I would just need the cases to do the machine work then mail them back with new components. The conversion comes with everything you need, You can keep your stock wheel but if you wanted the full weight reduction we use carbon fiber wheels. When you sit on it its like half the bike disappeared. It is an expensive proposition

thanks! I thought I read info from years ago that it would require splitting them. It was also good to know that carbon qheels explained how it could be a 100lb reduction. Because that had me baffled. So if I drop my ‘10 off with you, how much would I owe you when I pick it up? (priced with keeping stock wheels vs carbon wheels)

Thanks Paul. Definately something I am considering.
