What do i need to replace to get rid of the "Chirpping" in my clutch.

The hich pitch sound is starting to hurt my ears a bit.

Chirps at about 2900 to 3300 R.P.M.

Does it do it sitting still and moving? Both clutch in and out? I've never heard a clutch chirp before. Did you have one of Lankee's burritos?

Just moving,

only with clutch out.

I can record it and let ya hear it if ya want.

No on the burrito.

Shad, not sure what to tell you. May have to disassemble the clutch for inspection? It's definitely coming from that area though?

It goes away when I pull in the clutch, it's a spinning whine noise.

Only does it from like 2900 to 3300 aprox.

I will post audio.

Agreed. I'm sure Kloker will chime in after his moped ride.

I have a 1997 with 14000 miles and also have the "chripping" sound coming from what I think is the clutch. Same symptoms; only when moving, clutch out, approx 2200 - 3200 rpm under light acceleration, goes away if I pull the clutch in, don't hear it at idle.

Anyone know what needs to be fixed?

^ Holy Thread Revival !!!

But to answer your question I would say the only way to see what's causing that would be to open up the clutch and physically look at the Steels, Friction Plates, etc and see what condition everything is in.
It could be just about anything in there causing that noise, a loose Bolt, worn Steels or Friction Plates, Broken Retaining Wire, etc, etc, etc.
You won't know until you look.
Heres a good guide to doing a Clutch Rebuild (use it as a reference):

Perhaps the pulling in of the clutch is the symptom, not the cause?

With the clutch in the transmission will not be moving so my money would be in there rather than in the clutch assembly.

By all means strip the clutch to rule that out but I suspect you will need to split the cases and have a peek inside if you want to get to the bottom of this.

I could live with a bird in my tranny if I had to split my cases just to set free the little bird making the chirp! Of course a noise is never a good sound but have been known to disappear as magically as they appeared. Old original poster never said what the outcome was from 2008. Heck, he's probably still riding it without a problem... Exceprt the chirp is a squawk now!
