Did the clutch lever mod, I have a couple pics of one of the old levers with the bearing inserted if anyone would like to see it. I got the information from an old issue of the V-Boost. So you can find all the details and information on what it takes there if you are interested.

I'd like to see it as I'm interested in this mod. You can post a picture here either as an attachment or host the picture on line and use the <IMG> code.

I got it from the v-boost, not sure who came up with it. What you do is drill out the hole in the clutch lever, insert a roller bearing, turn down the bolt and make a hardened collar for over the bolt. When all put back together the clutch lever pull is smooth as silk with no vertical slop in the lever. I did it and I know there are others who have done it as well.

now I see what it does. There is a lot of vertical play in my clutch that is rather annoying

"Not very Useful"

I disagree, I like the mod, gives me a much better and more controled feel, No longer has any play vertically either and pulls smooth so I have much better clutch control.:punk0000:

It's a mod I did and amk glad I did so, Might not be for everyone. Will deffinitly do it to a couple of my other bikes as well.

Post a picture, I'm trying to get a better idea of this mod! :pics:

It looks good but does it increase the play? it also looks like it weakens the lever considerably, I don't think it is strong enough for the brake lever,
It would be great for cluches with heavier springs and DD mod if play is minimum.
Thanks

Bearing is very thin, Does not weaken the lever at all. Also takes out all vertical play and makes the pull just as smooth as silk. I personnally like the mod, but to each his own.

Dave, who makes them? how much is it for clutch and brake levers?

The bearing is just over $4.00, I also bought a new lever and bolt. I took all pieces to a machine shop with the instructions and he machined the hole in the lever, machined the bolt down and made the sleeve for over the bolt. All in all he did three of them for me and it cost me $70 from the shop. (Think he spent two hours on the project. If you can do the machine work yourself you would only have the cost of the bearing.

I do not believe that you can do the brake, different bolt and set up on that side. But that side also does not have all the slop and vertical play that the clutch side has. At least on our bikes. There are a few other people on the list who have done this as well. I got the details and information from a issue of the V-Boost, I think it was a 2001 issue.

Ibrahim, all you need to do is take your lever off, clean the hole and bolt, and grease them both. The difference in pull effort is not worth the mod. You're looking at resistance/friction in the pivot area and a dab of grease is all that's needed.

I'm interested in this mod. With the DD clutch mod I have I'm always interested in lighter pull! I work in a machine shop so problem on that end. I'll PM you my email address if you could get me some info.
Thanks for sharing this with us!

I thought that hte big benifit of this mod was to take the vertical play out of the lever?

Don't know why the vertical play would be a problem, all bikes have it. Play can be lessened by fitting a thin washer in with the lever to take up the extra slop. Use a feeler gage to find out how much free space there is and then find a washer (nylon, fiber, metal) .001-.002 less than feeler thickness.
