I just saw the new Cycle Worlds review on the 09. They said they loved the bike but no 9s. The best they could pop out of it was a 10.13 with a pro riding it. They said it is just to heavy.

Tom

YEAH , TO BAD ITS NOT LIGHTER , LIKE 200 LBS , BUT MAN THATS SMOKE'N FOR A BIG HEAVY BIKE LIKE THAT !:punk:

i just read it too, i'm glad i waited for the reviews to come out before i paid that much money for a slower bike than mine, i can run in the 9's all day.

Here's more on what Dale Walker had to say about it. The best he could run was a 10.13

"Dale walker has confirmed his 10.13 138 mph pass on the new Max.

He said the weight of the bike hurts the launch (his best 60 footer was
1.72) because of all the mass to get moving. Traction was not an issue.
It was a fairly hot day and was on a track that is about a tenth slower
than other tracks he runs in Cailfornia. He weighs in at 180lbs. He
went through the traps in 4th gear, not sure of the exact rpm but near
redline (9500). He says the rev limiter hits hard at 9500 rpm. He
shifted 1-2 @ 9200 and 3-4 at 9400
He says that the clutch is very good. He does not like the throttle by
wire at all, it had a strange part of the rpm under load that would
either pull the motor down a bit to much, or explode. This also hurt
the launch a bit.
He had hoped he could ride it the next morning when it was cooler but
it was not possible.
His quote on Jay Gleason riding the bike was "Jay may in fact of get it
close to the 9s or in the 9s, but he would have really have to work at
it the day I rode the bike at the same track."

Well this is really bad news! We don't have highways and regular roads around here, only race tracks and we have to be able to do a minimum 10.12 in the quarter mile or else be shunned out. And since the only thing that matters to everyone is that it has to be the fastest bike on the planet then I guess I should cancel my order!:icon_rolleyes:

Still a kickass machine regardless of trap speeds. Unfortunately the weight and to some degree the shaft drive is probably going to keep the engine from putting down numbers that will outperform the big cc crotch rockets. I think we can all agree the engine is more than up to the task though!

WHY IS THE NEW MAX SO HEAVY ANYWAY ? IS IT THE WEIGHT OF THE ENGINE ? HOW'S THE NEW BUSA 250 LBS LIGHTER ? BEFORE ANYONE GETS AN ATTITUDE , I'M NOT COMPARING A RICE ROCKET TO THE V-MAX , I'M JUST WONDERING WHY ITS SO HEAVY ! WITH ALL OF THE PLASTIC & CAST PARTS , I JUST DON'T KNOW WHY ?????????:confused2::ummm:

i think you put its fat ass on a diet and do the basic pipe , power commander, and air intake this thing will come alive . just ditching that stock exhaust with the cat will have to drop 30Lbs. i read that that vmax190 runs 9's all day and is glad he waited to buy a 09' before he read the stats.
heres the question what is done to that vmax to run 9's and how much was spent to get it there not to mention the handling factor. the 09' with a very low 10's is pretty respectable for the weight and its the first real time put down. how many times has it been said in other threads the amount of $$$ we all have in the gen 1's to make them handle and into break into the 120's with hp.
the 09' at 174 hp at the rear stock with handling to boot i'm stiil in i think that computer on the 09' will open alot of hp up with the right tune. now this is all my opinion and we all know about opinions. :argue 1:

Yeah, even installing the racing ECU, what good will that truly do if this thing can't shed any weight? But my guess is that you drop a hundred pounds on this thing then everyone better look out!

It will be interesting to see how easy the 09 will be to mod. There is quite a lot of electronics tied to the different systems that you mention so I don't know if you can just remove something like the exhaust without changing something in the programming.

Do you want to hear everything about the 09, including the good and bad, or just see posts that blows sunshine up your ass and tells you that this is the best bike since sliced bread? Personally I want to see the reality of the bike, not some make believe world that Yamaha wants to create.

My point is that it seems everyone is so concerned over whether it's the quickest bike on the planet. I have said in many posts that I don't care either way, I'm grateful that it's going to be a much nicer / comfortable ride than my current Max. I appreciate the fact that no matter what it's still going to haul major ass. I think it's an awesome looking bike based on just the photos I've seen and they apparently don't do it justice. I feel sorry for you if all you care about is if it's the fastest on the planet - there will always be something just around the corner that will get you!

This is also why I can't wait to hear from actual owners, not the Star reps, not the "professionals", not the media, just your average everyday rider and get a different point of view!

Yep, some of us sort of predicted the sunshine and puppies stuff from Yamaha. Still, it's a cool bike and will be a blast to ride. I wanna see what they (Yamaha) does with it (upgrades, changes) over time.

LOL, just wait till I get my fat ass on it. I'm 6 foot and 205 lbs. I'm sure I'll be the reason this beast slows down! :bang head:
''LOL'' , SHIT I'M 195 LBS MYSELF , WILL WE HAVE TO PAY MORE FOR TOLL'S ? "LOL":rofl_200:

I don't care if it's the fastest on the planet - it's still the COOLEST bike on the planet. When I ride to Quaker Steak & Lube in Clearwater every Wed. there's between 2000 & 3000 bikes every single week, yet only ONCE have I seen another VMAX. You should see me strutting around with my chest puffed out & my nose in the air - any year VMAX ROCKS ! I gar-on-teee if I rode up in an '09 the people would flock around it. The write-up in Dec. CycleWorld is cool because it's still Peewee Gleason wringing it for everything it's worth. Maybe one of these weekends I'll ride down to Ft Myers & have Peewee autogragh my VMAX - then it will REALLY be one in a million ! Phil & G, are you ready to ride ?

I AGREE ,COOL AS HELL ! , I WISH I HAD ONE COMING , THE ONLY THING I WISH IT HAD WAS CHAIN DRIVE ! THEN WE ALL COULD MESS WITH IT & GIVE USE MORE TO TALK ABOUT ! "LOL" , SOME COULD CHANGE THE GEARING FOR LOW END ( DRAG RACING ) & SOME COULD CHANGE IT FOR LONG DISTANCE RIDING ! AND IT WOULD STILL HAVE ALL KINDS OF TORQUE !:punk:
