I decided to go thru some old papers I had in storage and was able to find (title) paperwork for a couple of bikes I've had but haven't done anything w/recently, both Yamahas. I also found my bill of sale for my 1971 Kawasaki H1 500 triple when I bought it in the '73/4 timeframe. I don't have that any more.

I wasn't sure I still had the papers and didn't want to spend any $ on them until I got that taken care of, now I can go ahead.

I sold the frame for my '78 GS550 a week or so ago. I was digging thru all my papers but could not find the title. Guess I lost it when I moved about 10 years ago.

I filled out some paperwork from PennDOT. I was shocked when a replacement title came in the mail. Cost was $24.00.

If you lose a title in NY for an on-road motor vehicle, you might as well just go buy a new one to avoid the hassles of re-titling. NEVER, EVER buy a on-road vehicle in NY that someone lost the title for. Seriously, don't. You'll grow old and gray before it ever happens. Off-road is easier, since there's a bit of a "bullshitter clause" in the rules that says if documents are lost a bill of sale from the last recorded owner is enough to get a new title/reg issued, but that doesn't fly for cars or bikes.
