So my daughter and I went to the drags friday night. While we were their robosauraus the car eating dinosaur was there, it was just parked. The show was saturday, during the oval races. All my kids wanted to see it, but I just have no Interest in the oval races. I love the drags and have raced several cars and my Vmax. Is it just me or is that a typical Vmax owner mentality. More about acceration and horsepower than round and round.

I'm a drag racing guy, spent a lot of time on both street and track, I'm not a big oval fan but enjoy a short track race now and again...............Especially when there is a figure eight involved!....:biglaugh:...............................Tom.

I have always been a drag racer started racing at the local strip when I was 15 I miss them days. I went & watched the bikes on a flat track once & did enjoy it though & I watched the world of outlaw sprint cars & thought they were cool.

drag race lots, street strip and a little bit of roundy rounds, i like them both, dirt and Asphalt ..... what ever makes power and goes fast hahaha :punk:

but i know what you mean, the intoxication from the acceleration in a car or on the max in the 1/4 is kick ass

There is a great Dirt Track right next to Houston Raceway Park that stays VERY busy, way busier than the drag strip except ast the twice yearly national events that come through.....the dirt track runs all classes of anything that goes in a circle on dirt....The open wheel modifieds or whatever they are called were my favorite....I used to make fun of them until a friend lured me into going........I couildn't help but enjoy myself, it WAS great racing and the entertainment factor is really a lot higher for the average "civilian" ..............I think every day drag racing appeals more to the enthusiast who is also or was in the past a participant....

I still like drag racing better and go often to the Friday and sunday night drags where you'll see everything from run what ya brung to super high dollar trailer cars, it's more fun to me...I don't run the Max very often anymore, got to a point where me or the bike wasn't going to get any faster and I was just beating it up with no goal........

I vote for the tracks over the drags. From the participant point, more time on the track w/more skill required to win. For spectators, seeing "your" car or bike win is a hoot. That probably comes true for the drag spectator more than the circle track one.

I have attended both over the years & always felt like I enjoyed the track more than the strip.

The father of one of my friends owned an Indy car team going back into the 1950's & also ran sprint cars under various sanctions. They also campaigned midgets, and for my $, those things were the best bang for the buck. Dirt or asphalt, those things Fly! Their history is fascinating, the well-heeled owners who could afford them ran Offenhausers, but eventually, other brands came into play, including 1/2-a-Chevy V8 Cesco's. VW's also had success. The Offenhauser cars are now worth big bucks especially if they have any racing success. The same builders who built Indy cars also built midget chassis, like Frank Kurtis, Edmonds, and Meyer & Drake, who eventually bought the Offy rights.

Many famous racers raced midgets, from AJ Foyt, Rodger Ward, Bill Vukovich, Parnelli Jones, to Tony Stewart.

Famous races where midgets proved their mettle against the finest and most expensive sports cars include the Monza, Italy Race of Champions, and Lime Rock Conneticut.

Going over to your friend's garage and seeing an oval track car with freshly-marbelled tires sitting next to a couple of drums of methanol and a chemical safe for the nitromethane they added to the fuel for its power-enhancing effect has a way of making an impression. Seeing it run in anger makes an even bigger one, as I did from their pits.

Now I like to see the cars and bikes run at the strip, and walking the pits is fun too, but for me the bigger thrill is the oval, dirt or asphalt, and cars or bikes on it. At Daytona, my buddy and I always go to the flat track and have fun watching the bikes. I confess I enjoyed it more when they ran the H-D 750's along with all the other manufacturers, but there is a variety of engines now competing, and the guys who do it are very skilled.
