Engine guards work?

What engine guards protect on vmx gen1? Anyone has experience? Now i have bented handlebar, cracked scoop, broken shifter and pedal, the hole in pipe and bunch of scratches. Low speed collision. Thinking of engineguards, but don,t like the look.

they must work as the ones on mine when I bought it were showing signs of road rash but no engine damage, I made some similar ones of my own in stainless as they also make good foot rests when your legs need a stretch

Engine was impact after my crash. Scoop and handlebar, mostly. Looks not good, to my taste. Your bike can be just dropped?

I don't know what happened to my bike but whatever you fit will have limitations
