Call me wierd... here I am asking about parts for a bike I don't even have... yet.:biglaugh: Anywho, they've had ovate wire, beehive valvesprings for cars for awhile now(Thanks, Comp Cams), and they are a big step in controlling harmonics and valve float. Does anyone know if they're made for ol' Max?

Also, Total Seal has made gapless piston ringe for some time now... are they available?

P.S. This tickled my brain when I saw it.

No behives but there are gapless rings. Depending on who you talk to the gapless aren't necessarily the way to go for a naturally aspirated engine (unless very high compression). The increased drag doesn't offset the increase in HP by enough many times to justify it.

Cool, thanks Sean.

I checked out your website, and I'm highly impressed... looks like you know your way around a Max pretty well. What say you about gapless rings? My only desire for'em would be more for longevity and less oil contamination.

Oil contamination with standard rings on the average street bike (modded or stock) is minimal and easily delt with with normal oil change intervals. You get more contamination with short trips then with blowby.

Now, that's with a properly tuned engine. An overly rich engine can cause cylinder wash which at that point you won't need to worry about the oil contamination as the cylinders are going to be toast.

We can get Gary's opinion too but I think even for the average turbo engine with low/moderate boost I don't think that the gapless is going to give any kind of big increases.

Hmmm... sounds like bigger bores benefit more from them. By big, I'm talking 4" or bigger bore - musclecar size, basically.

Obviously I have more to look for than gapless rings... like a BIKE? I may put a set in down the road. Only because I know I can get lax on maintenance(6 years not changing oil/filter on my XT500, and it still ran!).

Seriously Sean. Thank you for your input. Most of what I know in the car world can carry over to some degree, but what you've already clarified for me is gonna keep me from practically ruining a Max one day.

These engines are the same as cars only on a smaller scale and higher rpm range. Everything costs more and the transmission is an intergral part.

I usually have a few bikes available and all I have at the moment is my 2005 that I have had for sale for the last part of the summer. Not going to give it away but I think it's a pretty good deal for someone. Of course we can build a bike from scratch too which would be more expensive depending on how custom you went. At some point it is cheaper to start from scratch.
