error code 17!

Hey guys, when starting my gen 2 vmax I'm getting a code 17 on the dash. Im not sure what it could be. the bike is riding at almost 100% but also the check engine light came on. I am not sure what it could mean. Thanks in advance for the help!

Page 8-46, of the svc manual says:

Item EXUP servo motor circuit: open or short circuit detected.
Fail-safe system
Able to start engine
Able to drive vehicle
Diagnostic code No. D:53
Actuator operation
Actuates the EXUP servo motor (turns to open side and to closed
side).
Illuminates the engine trouble warning light.
Checking method Check the operating sound.
Probable cause of malfunction Check or maintenance job
1 Connections
• EXUP servo motor coupler
• Wire harness ECU coupler
• Check the coupler for any pins that may be
pulled out.
• Check the locking condition of the couplers.
• If there is a malfunction, repair it and connect
the coupler securely.
2 Open or short circuit in wire harness. • Repair or replace if there is an open or short
circuit.
• Between EXUP servo motor coupler and ECU
coupler.
(blue–blue)
(white/red–white/red)
(black/blue–black/blue)
3 Defective EXUP servo motor (potentiometer
circuit).
• Execute the diagnostic mode. (Code No. D:53)
• Replace if defective.
Reinstatement method Reinstated automatically if a normal signal is received.

thanks alot! i have a vance & hines slip on and removed the exup cables and just left them loose. But never had the 17 code or check engine light up before. I hope it won't cause any issue. thanks for the quick reply.
