Evaporative canister removal

My bike has the evap canister on it. I've been told this is a California model item only. Regardless, is it possible to remove and plug connection points without a lot of collateral issues?

I searched for this on the forum but didn't find anything.

Oops, I did find a 2016 thread titled Calif model. It discusses remove of the evap can, but not a lot of definitive answers. If someone has the inside scoop on the delete, let me know. Thanks.

Worked on several sets that had the emissions canister removed. It doesn't appear to make any difference in the running although I always plug the brass pipe on the #2 carb to prevent any unfiltered air getting in.
