Exhaust leak w/pic

My buddies V max sounded different than mine. Mine sounds like its puffing more. I think I found out why. Looks like the connections are not slid in all the way. Any suggestions on how to push them in for leak free operation? And yes Iv tried loosening the clamp and pushing by hand. Loosen the connection to the heads first? Gaskets?

You'll have to loosen or remove the bolts holding the mufflers to the frame to try and push that in more.

Should have first said..

The bike slid into a curb on its left side backwards. Meaning the exhaust hit first. I think it tweaked the rest of the undamaged exhaust forward maybe. Not sure.

I know with the aftermarket exhausts ALL the bolts should be loose to line everything up and make them fit and then tighten all the bolts.

also try some high temp RTV in the areas where the pipes slip on each other. (not on the engine ports though! IE where you put the gaskets)

Thanks everyone. I got the slip in connections in my picture together and tight but found a exhaust clamp on #1 cylinder missing its bolt.

How do I find the size of ..

I was trying to replace the clamp bolt with the heat shield and exhaust tips (whatever there called) still installed but ran out of patience. The clutch hydro line is right in the way. I dont think its a 8mm. Guessing 6

Does the heat shield come out if I get it loose? It looks pretty tight.

And whats the story on the heat shield? I see some with aftermarket exhausts without them.

The OEM heat shield is not used with ANY full aftermarket exhaust. It still is with slip-ons but of course they don't replace the stock pipes. The small bolts that hold the rear exhaust covers (decorative) are much smaller (want to say 5mm x 1.0) and are very easy to break.

Thanks. Removed everything without breaking anything. But I cant get the heat shield out to clean it.:ummm:

#1 clamp had no bolt. #3 clamp was finger tight and the fitting in the picture in my first post was almost out.

Sounds great now thanks to everyone.

Now, if I could just get the heat shield out cuz it needs polish.

it's tricky to remove and I can't remember right now which direction you have to pull it. Did you get the lowest bolt on the right side (way down at the bottom). Then maybe remove the plastic cover from the valve cover to give you a bit more room.

Plastic covers been gone for a while. Cant seem to wiggle the shield out but will try in the morning with more light.
